My $300 a month budget 69 RR project (AKA, Wholly crap, what did I get myself into)

all my Chrysler tanks have taken 5 gallons to reach empty, so i think you're good there.

"Thanks Ron... My first car was a 69 Malibu and I wish I had another, still love the lines of that car...but that's for another forum."

My first legal was a 66 Impala, 2 door with a 283 automatic, I have no desire to own another! lol After that was a 63 Impala SS, NOW its for another place, I had two of them and only one was real, (SS) but i did like that car, 4 speeds make a difference, at least back then when young and i guess dum, I seemed to always be in need of tires! :)

Alright... I've blown my budget out of the water (no pun intended considering my leaking issues)

I've been driving the RR around and have got the bug to get some stuff done!

Console resto
1. Plastokit repair kit
2. carpet kit
3. Black paint for plastic
4. Argent silver for the top plates
5. new shift boot
6. Console mounting brackets

also investigating shifter options (see thread in General Tech)

Rear Bench
1. Legendary covers (bought a while ago)
2. Seat padding kit

Leakdown test
1. Leakdown tester
2. New valve cover gaskets (need to ensure both valves closed, probably easiest with covers off)
3. New MP Aluminum valve covers (they look badass... I got carried away)

headlights
1. Headlight retainer rings (purchased from fellow member)
2. New headlamps

Exhaust
1. New Dynomax 17749's
2. New Flowmaster 2.5" tailpipes
3. Soon to be purchased 2.5" RR tips and hangers

New Autometer in dash Vac gauge... this will replace the useless clock that drains too much power. I don't know why more cars don't have Vac gauges in dash.. seems like a very usefull item to have.

Windlace... I'm missing it on 1 side.

Plugs... time for a new set.

Also working on....

1. Getting set-up and installed. A new MSD Dist, plug wires and high temp plug boot covers, that I bought last year.
2. Installing my $300 68 Charger buckets. also bought last year

Anyway, good times in the garage. I'm so close to having her ready for regular use, I can practically taste the asphalt.

Git R Done! LOL... :dancing_monkey:

Two thumbs up Scott, we need some more pics with some palm trees in the background!

lots of progress, need to get some road tme now.

I ve done it a bit less, but done it never the less! I don't excited though, its part of the process and next month we shoot for the top again! Does bring you down but, it always gets better with some time...

I might have a set of those exhaust hangers just sitting on the shelf collecting dust Gear. Pretty sure I do. I'd let them go pretty cheap.

Thanks for offering Will! I wanted to get the tips on order last night so I ordered a pair of the hangers while I was at it (I got impatient). Figured since I had blown my budget already, better to just make one big apology to the accountant (wife), than a bunch of apologies.

Hehehehe....I know how that goes man. Figured I'd offer. Have fun strapping on the last bit's and pieces Scott.

Outside of providing my credit card number to a variety of companies lately, I haven't been particularily productive for the past 2 weeks....
That all changed last night....new door jamb windlace installed. Yeah Baby!

ok, maybe it wasn't all that exciting

New parts all here except for the stuff I ordered from PG classics... I don't think I'll order from them again, for the following reasons.
A. Website took me all the way through to the point of taking my credit card and then crashed (twice). Leaving me not knowing if I had placed 0,1 or 2 orders
B. Called during working hours, got voicemail, asked them to call me back to confirm how many orders they had for me..... 0,1 or 2 (1 being ideal). No call back
C. Didn't receive order confirmation email for 4 days
D. Sent me 3 tracking notices over 7 days, all telling me that the info was sent to Fed Ex... the fourth yesterday telling me it had actually shipped.

Anyway, maybe they are a good company, but first impressions are key...they blew it

I can chalk this up to one more against them bud, I keep hearing negative things about them everytime i here the company's name.. I think they are trying to keep up or maybe surpass "year one" the leading company with most all parts as far as i know and just cant cut it.. Unless they are cheaper with shipping as i know all to well Year one is "out of this world" and possibly the next lol. Good luck!

I have had my best luck with Classic Industries for Resto parts... Honsetly I wish their was a Resto group that had customer service as good as Summit, they really have their act together in my book.

forget PG...have heard mostly bad customer service from them. BE&A are great, and they have the same parts.

Got a little work done this weekend, which felt good. I'l post some pics tonight.

New headlight alignment hardware installed, new bulbs and broken retainter rings replaced... I did a quick and dirty headlight alignment but will probably need to take it to someone since I dont have a flat driveway to do it on.

Fixed a window regulator issue that was annoying the hell out of me. Goes up and down smoothly now and the window stays in it's track... all good things

Installed MSD distributor, new MSD wires and a set of those braided plug boots to keep them from melting on the headers. Looks nice, but I've got some troubeshooting to do, because it won't fire up... I'm sure it's something simple, I just ran out of time to chase down the problem on Sunday night.

Took a look at the plugs whil I was installing the wires... I was expecting to see issues with all of the tuning challenges I was going through, but they looked pretty good, no fouling, all looked slightly tan on the insulators.

Front bumper back on the car with a little help from a neighbor... don't try it by yourselves kids, I took a small chunk of paint off when I tried to do it as a 1 man job :angryfire:

Fully dissasembled and cleaned the console assembly. Will be working on the plastic repair and painting this week. I got a carpet kit in for it as well, but have to admit I am a little perplexed by the pieces that came in the kit.. doesn't quite look right to me and appearantly I need to cut the drivers side piece to fit? Anyway, I thought it was a precut kit but guess not.

Also ran the car out around the neighborhood long enough to see if the removal of the unused electric fan improved the overheating issue and it looks like it did, but I think the thermostat my be sticking a little... temp went up to 195, then suddenly dropped to 180.

Anyway that's it for weekend update.

Oh...my PG classics stuff showed up finally.

one of the first thing I did was pull off the junk electric fan, and it jhelped with the cooling. the going to 195 then dropping to 180 is just the t stat opening.
just find a parking lot or yard where it's dark, cover the other headlights with a towel and adjust the headlights one by one. no need to pay someone for that.
and how did you take the car around the neighboorhood when it wouldn't fire? musta got awfully tired pushing it....:toothy3:

Wow - I'm impressed! You've. Taken what sounded like a barn find and have turned into a nice car for what you've spent. I wish I was that disciplined!

Hey when you are doing the plastic repair take a peice of aluminum window screen and melt it in to the plastic from the back side be careful and go slow dont push it too deep but it works great to give you a very strong repair that will hold up much better then use whatever plastic repair on the front side and even smeared over the patch on the back.
