My charger restoration dream car

After installing the latch it took me some time to adjust everything to get the door to close right. once I got the door to close right the lock did not work right so I took the latch back off to adjust the lock. I found after I took it off that there is a lock adjustment access from the door jam that made it a lot easier to adjust.

I still do not have the rubber seals on the door but the door seems to shut and open well.

It may be hard to close your doors with the seals in till they take a set.

I also may need to do some more fine tuning after the seals are in. I have been holding off, to keep the openings clear, until I get the windows set. It may not matter but that is my thought.

Mine shut ok but had to use some force. I let them set for a week before adjusting.

New repro seals I have boiled them in water. Place them in the pot once the water boils for a couple minutes remove them. You then can apply Glycerin soap or dielectric grease, your choice...I also love mothers "back to black" to use routinely prior and post installation.....

If restoring old seals SEM vinyl prep aerosal will soften and clean the seal...You may or may not need to boil but then move to the last 2 steps.

I have been working on getting everything ready to install my door windows. One of the things that has helped me is when members on this site show their process on specific parts restorations so I have been trying to show how I have done some of mine and may be it will help others have an idea how to improve on theirs.
Many of my parts have been in fair condition when I clean them up but when I started to work on the interior door window rails I found under the old rubber seals that it had cancer rust. Water must get held up in these and cause problems. After cleaning and media blasting the rails I felt like they were still structurally strong enough to reuse. I treated those spots with rust treatment. I ordered the new rail felt and it came with the mounting rivets. I cut them to length and hammered the holding rivets back in.

After media blasting there were a few spots where the rust had eaten through.

Great job man that looks sweet! A lot of time you spent on those! Some people never realize until they do that....
They always are roached under the seals......even when the outside look good....

Great tips. Keep them coming. These are things I do not know. I am also learning a lot from your project thread. Thank you,

These are the seals you helped me find. :thankyou:

I'm watching close, since I'll be doing the same soon. Where are you getting the seals and felts from?

Most of all the weatherstripping and seals I got from Classic Industries. These channel felts were harder to find. I found that Layson's have them. The ones that I ordered were on ebay from vansautollc. They are called Mopar 68 69 70 B-Body Charger GTX Hardtop Lower Lock Side Door Channel Seal NEW.

Thanks for the lead on those, just bought the last one he had! Sorry Kid!

How does that door adjust work ? I didn't know you could adjust it on the door latch with a hex key

The hex screw is only to adjust the door lock position. When it is not adjusted correctly the lock will not work. I adjusted this after getting the door to shut correctly with the latch in the door jamb.
Sorry about the confusion.

They'll make more before I can afford them anyway, after my paint job bill. Just making sure I bookmark all these things I'll need also for the future. Thanks!

Thanks so much, great job your doing on your car, looks awesome

I had a great time with my family at the MATS (Mopars At The Strip) in Las Vegas watching the drag races, shopping in the swap meet and from new parts vendors, and looking at acres of car show.
I thought that I would show some pictures of what I saw. It was hard to narrow the pictures to what I will post. There were so many beautiful cars with the sound of engines rumbling and drag racing all day long. The event is 3 days long.

ECS also brought the 4 door barracuda that they made and were handing out free t-shirts. I had been watching the progress of this car when they had it's progress on this site.
