Just need to rant about my steller afternoon in the garage.

Having just received my aluminum rad back from warranty due to a crack in the filler neck I went and re-installed it. Drip drip drip when I filled it with coolant.

Awesome it leaks now... deal with the vendor on Monday.

Wanted to see if the new 7 blade fan and Milodon water pump helped with idle temps. Run the car for a bit which has been having carb issues backfiring through carb when revved too quick. Figure accelerator pump issues... no matter right now. WRONG

Backfires through the carb and stalls. So I let it be and then see smoke from the hood. Carb fire! Blistered the paint on my hood. Fu*k my life...

Final icing on the cake is the fuel gauge now reads half when full..

Only good thing that comes from this is my timeline for buying an RO23 scoop just got bumped up.

That's some touch luck. Hang in there, tomorrow's another day. I look at the photo, great looking car.

Yeah the old cars seem to fight us every inch of the way! You're not alone. I don't have enough room to go down through and list my "unlucky" moments! Just keep plugging away. One problem at a time!

Sounds just like something that would happen to me lol. These cars seem to buck every step of the way for some reason.

Just keep plugging away and know that we all feel for you and your not alone when it comes to bad days....good luck.

Man that sucks, could be worse though...

Yeah that was just... sad.

I keep a fire extinguisher in the garage for such reasons.

Seems Kramer who is regarded as the best for the R023 scoop doesn;t have any for the time being with no ETA. Guess it's down to sled city or AAR. Opinions?

As far as the backfire. New coil, new wires, new rev-n-ator, new fire core dizzy, new plugs. Starts runs idles great high rpm, low rpm great. If you pump it lightly a few times before nailing it no issue. Go from an idle and pop.

Rad leaks bad from the tank that was just replaced. Guess they don't test it? I pressured it up today to pinpoint it. Call them tomorrow and see what happens there. Wish I would have spent the extra coin for a Glen-Ray

Mamma told me there would be days like this, but she never said anything about whole weeks and months!!!!!! Hang in there,it will only make you love the car more in the long run.

That back firing could be timing. Get that set first then tune carb.

Agreed, backfiring is almost always timing. Have you ever put a timing light on it while revving it to see what it's doing? That is some bad luck, sorry to hear.

keep at it and the payday will come. I just got done dicking with my car for a month after putting the new motor in and finding issue after issue that needed fixing. Everything from having to change out the sending unit, fixing rubber fuel line at tank that was collapsing on itself, tracking down fuel issue and trying to figure out if it was the fuel pump or sending unit, over jetted the carb due to initial fuel issues and once fuel issues were fixed the carb was way too rich and blackened the plugs making the car not able to idle in gear and back firing out the tail pipe. Jetted down, put new plugs in and fixed some other random issues yesterday; spent 16 hours this weekend working on the car only to finally be able to drive it last night for 15 minutes to determine its road worthiness. After a month, finally got the car out tonight and was able to enjoy the fruits of all my hard and frustrating labor.

Still snow on the ground here so no cruising yet.

The rad is going back to the vendor for warranty no hassles there thankfully. They will foot the shipping bill too.

Hood scoop is down to AAR and Sled City need to do some research.

As for the backfiring issue. Borrowed a buddys brand new in the box Quick Fuel 780 Hot rod series carb and no change. Pulled out my timing light and it showed bang on at 18 initial. Then I started playing and set the advance dial to zero and watched the timing tape show wild swings of 30 to 40 deg with no rpm change. Keep in mind brand new coil, new Firecore wires, new firecore dizzy and new rev-n-ator box. So I set the light anywhere from 5 deg up to 45 on the advance dial and the timing marks line up perfectly. So now I really have no clue what it's timed at and suspect my timing light is a POS and maybe the source of all my troubles? Just a $90 Innova one.

Looking at spending good money on a Snap-On light. It says it won't do solid core wires, I don't think the Firecore wires are solid are they?
