Need advice on a 69 GTX

Man o man... This puppy needs work. Nothing is impossible now-a-days, it just comes down to $$$. I just restored my first car with bad frame rails. They were rusting from the inside out. I had to put on new quarters, rockers, floors, doors, hood, front and rear frames and this added about $5k to my restoration.

I agree this one needs to be saved....

Looks about as bad as my GTX was. From a investment perspective, it's a lose lose situation. From a passionate, and determined position it's a win win. I chose the latter on my passion project GTX. Tools, Time, Space, and know-how are all parts to consider before jumping in...

Your nightmares will come to pass when this car comes back from the Media Blaster!

I offered him 1500.00 for it but he said he couldn't let it go that cheap. I told him to think about it and where I was coming from with the work that had to be done to make it nice. What do you guys think it is worth and what do you think the restoration will cost on this puppy? I doesn't have a fender tag or build code with it so how will that effect the value of the car since I won't be able to tell how it came from the factory. Thanks for your input it is really helpful.

Make it how you want to make it, when it all boils down to, who in hell cares about how it came from the factory, when much of factory stuff was bare metal, and rust prone, and when we fix 'em, make 'em the way we want to; my angle! My GTX is going to be sick, widened qtrs, and fenders, cut fenders for big fat wheels up front, and bigger out back. disc brakes all 'round, I want to get a 6.1 and a 5 speed. Good luck, make it the way you wish!

I wouldn't go higher than $1,500-$1,700, Just my opinion....Cost of restoration.......That all depends on if you're gonna do it or hire out as well as how "nut and bolt" you're gonna get with it.. Kinda generic and an opinion...$20,000-30,000 if you do a majority of the work... $40,000-$60,000 if sent out and restored correctly and not cobbled together.

I agree with Rooster Cogburn!.

It has the original engine and trans and everything is there
That would make me do it with correctness, if not, pass it on to someone who will and buy yourself a hotrod.
Since you don't have a build sheet or fender tag then but the engine and trans match the VIN thats a big help.

You need to decide if you love the car and it is exactly what you want. With the amount of restoration the car needs, I agree with the above posts $40k - $60k is not unrealistic. You will probably not ever recoup the money put into it. But if you consider it your hobby and getaway space when working on it, it may be worth it. There are alot worse ways to spend money.

I have the "Air Grabber" on my 69X, I don't see the same cable coming out of the fire wall. But,... the car appears to be unmolested and it looks to have the Red inserts in the hood.

Interesting, looks to have cruise control too? Man, so sad to see them in this shape...would be great restored though

Getting back to the N96 clues, I see the Air Grabber hood inserts and the 3 spd wiper motor.

You're going to have to get this GTX Media Blasted before you go too far in it. However, if you know that a certain piece/area of metal is bad, cut it out before you send it to the blaster. If you have a chemical dipper nearby, that's also an option; it's more of a complete strip than the blaster can do, but, you'll have to ensure the chemicals are completely rinsed out of the car.

Doing this is the only way to ensure you are starting in the right direction.

its a 69 gtx, amd, time ,money.its a 69 gtx.most would say no way,but most dont have vision.i did a 68 charger about that bad.it was worth it.its a 68 charger.these cars are drying up, i might rather cut out and replace steel than try to hunt down parts for a car that is more sound but not complete.whomever tackles this car needs to know what they are doing.shame to part it.just my 2 c.

I'd do it, but only if it can be bought for cheap. I wouldn't give more than a $1000. What sellers have to come to grips with is the fact the days of fetching $4000 to $7000 for cars in this shape....ARE OVER. And I've seen cars like this go for that much. But not now, not in this day and age. You're going to have to put a lot of money into this car, and the cheaper the price, the more you can start putting into it right away.

Is the fender tag there? There is a cruise servo there, on the Coronets cruise was not available with the air grabber hood.

Who ever saves this one needs to do the vast majority of work themselves. I think $60K is a minimum for shopping this one out. And what is a number #1, 440/375, auto '69 GTX worth? A very nice one did not sell at Mecum in Dec with a high bid of $20K. You can still bid on it.

There is another to be sold through Mecum on 26th Jan that the guy claims he has $100K in to get it to #1 condition.

keep your eye on it. I bet it won't draw a $50K bid. Bid $50K on it and you will be way ahead.
