Need help from those who survived the 70s

The CB antenna at one time was mounted on the trunk forward lip. Then I went to a 4' fiberglass whip on the left side of the rear bumper.
The scanner was a Bearcat handheld. Fog lights mounted low on the Clown lip front bumper. Firestone L60 x 15 on the rear and F60 x 15 on the front. The Charger came with red painted 11" drums so I painted them white. Who in there right minds would paint the drums red? Oh and I filled the window washer reservoir with bleach and water and ran small tubing to both the rear wheels. When stopped at a red light just push the washer button and wet down the wheels and stand on the brake peddle enough to hold the car and push down the gas peddle. This makes an awesome show with lots of smoke. The street fills with white smoke the crowd roars and you look over your hood and though the smoke walks a Cop, busted.
The big yellow pint container size Accel Super coil and yellow 8mm Fat Stuff plug wires.
You always found something left in the car when cleaning it out on Monday night, a necklace (puka shells where in then),stockings, bra, phone numbers on a napkin, rabbit fur (yes real rabbit fur from a girls coat) that is all she was wearing that night. I think you can still find fur in the car.
As some called them anti-theft door lock buttons to match my SE wood grain trim. Sun Super Tach II, really soft fur on the package tray (came from a old coat from the 1930's), M/T cast aluminum valve covers with those Tee handled valve cover bolts and black painted engine compartment that is being removed.
Oh I'm curious Streetwedg, what do you disagree with in my post #64 above?

im 51, and didn't drive till the 80s...... you guys are ancient!

and for what it's worth; in the 80s we rolled with a Pioneer Super Tuner w cassette and a pair of Jensen Tri-Axels
Hey ! I resemble that remark ! and, yes, I also have the required pair of Jensen 6x9 speakers in my rear shelf.

I heard somebody say Super Shops! What an awesome speed shop. The one on 82nd street in Portland OR was open late on Saturday night. You could go in at 7:00 PM and roll out with a new set of rear tires. I remember guys changing carbs and distributors in the parking lot. I spent ALOT of money there in the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. Remember money for rent, car parts, beer and food- in that order. Life was simple.

Were else could you get a warranty on speed parts? This was the last thing that I bought from them before they went out of business, a Mallory coil for my '69 Road Runner.

Saw this in Southern Oregon a few years ago. My wife cringed but it wasn't for sale.

I had the same model Sun Tach mounted on column in my 74 Tioga/Dodge 22 ft cls C. On it when i bought it in early 2002. Had a 360 2bbl. I know this sounds impossible, but i Swear its true....
Redline was supposed to be 5500...stock hydraulic lifter.....but this motor kept breathing beyond six......valve float came @ 6300......there is a section of 405 around the 110 exchange that is absolutely flat....about 2 miles, & the Tioga would run 105 mph in either direction! I got into some some stop light racing one night w/ a Lexus IS 300.......i got the jump across the intersection every time before He would nose in front of me. He & His Woman were blown out, giving me thumbs up.......i just love underdogs.

Does this constitute NOS? picked up on local swap n sell site for $20, anyway NIB quality manufactured in Taiwan- remember them? pre- Japan!

also know my RR had a CB at some point- 2 small holes in dash where the mic holder was. Sooooo......, guess I'll be shopping for a classic one of them too hehe.

Yep, back in high school in the early 70's my 64 Polara 500 had the reverb, Hi Jacker air shocks, crager mags, raised white letter tires, 8 track player, FM converter, 4 speed with the factory white shift knob. Changed it to the Hurst T handle.

It had the Cal custom foot accelerator pedal as well as the matching foot for the high beam switch. Also had the 13 1/2" Superior foam steering wheel.

Those were the days, cruising first street in San Jose, CA on friday and saturday nights with my high school sweet heart (first wife).

We had Sherbas auto parts on El Camino Real in Santa Clara, Winchester Auto Supply on Winchester Blvd. Also had a great auto parts store called Mid - Night Auto Supply which was really open until mid night every night.

I found my box of the old stuff I kept off of my first Polara (over 43 years ago) from high school (should of kept the whole car).

Here is what I still have:
Foot gas pedal.
Hurst shift knob.
8 track tape player. Cannot find the tapes.
Reverb and AM radio.

I plan on searching ebay and other sources for the rest on the first list which I can't find.
It looks like I'm going to set up the new to me Polara 500 just as I had in high school. Only this time it will be my second wife and I enjoying the car.

God Bless America....and keep on Moparen.....

I had AMERICAN SPEED CENTER stickers on the rear quarter windows, then the cops started writing citations for IIRC $35.00 per sticker. SO I just rolled the windows down, that worked good till it rained or winter came. Put some stickers in the trunk then. Hell the cops even tried to knock you off for bumper height restrictions. So I had a yard stick laying on the package tray, it's still there to this day. I do not remember what the limit was.

Motorola reverberation (Vibrasonic), that brings back memories. Had one of those in my first Runner as well.

If ya want the 70's look don't forget the clothes. Find some shirts with the huge collars, around 1250% puffed out polyester and bell-bottom jeans, then get your hair "big" I mean big, perms were popular back when as well. My '73 Challenger (my 1st new car sadly I traded in my '70 Cuda 383 ragtop for it) had an FM convertor, 8-track, (cb for a short time), yep, jacked up rear, air shocks, Keystone mags on 60-series rubber...rode just like a brick!

Oooh....70 'Cuda 'vert!!

This is my old -Fuzzbuster II- please note it is the --II model--:)
It served me well enough for the cost.
I did get pulled over once by a state trooper that asked me how it worked out for me.
My response was -good- and it maybe paid for the cost many times over considering the amount of driving I do.

He chuckled at that and said He spends all his time on the freeways and never uses his radar.
Case in point he said. I like to -chase and pace- my pray. I like the sport of the chase.:D

Well I was getting a ticket and he caught me fair and square.

BTW I met this same trooper several times over two years. The time that sticks with me the most is--Late night open freeway--no traffic. I let my 68 hemi RR find it's favorite speed (85mph)with 3/23 gears.
So the tunes were blasting, life was good and I caught a light to my right. It was my buddy the trooper. He was next to me in the right lane with all of his lights off. He turned on his interior light and had a big grin on his face.
I couldn't help but like this guy. We each did what we did and there was no drama.:)

Now we just hang them on the rack in the back seat in cleaner bags!

"Blade", 105 in a class c?? You were/are crazy.!!!

So my buddy with a '68 Satellite low-perf 383 decided to go at it one night on a 5mile stretch of interstate and I got him handily, then we turned off at side street and pulled into closed gas station to talk about it. Ohio highway patrol pulled alongside; " you two racing? no just talking." " Well I could take either one of you." And my rt. side passenger said "I don't think so". Cop probably had a 440Fury.

Its so killer when minds from the opposite sides meet. I ran a CHP one night.
A long *** story ive posted before, so i'll refrain. The crux: me in my 69 Coro 500 with 318 w 2 bbl,,,,,Him in a brand new 1982 Mopar 383 Police Intetceptor. Highway One Shoreline North of Golden Gate bridge....very tight road. I never saw the Guy but found out from the kid that was riding with me, what the Cop had to say. I had put major distance between us in about 8 miles of balls out driving,,,,,staying in my lane,, well the front of the Coro stayed in my lane but getting so counterlocked i know that long *** end was stepping over center. Having put over a mile between is, i took a right turn on to another route just before Stinson Beach......got a half mile up road and the bastard was closed for construction. Fully barricaded. So i pulled over onto left shoulder & bailed down the side of the hill....the other Kid stayed w/ the car. I ended up hiding in woods for @ least a couple hours, during which time i heard my car start & drive away,,figuring it was headed to impound. Finally i crept out & headed back down to where i turned off of hwy 1. The Kid was down there w/ my car! So i jumped in the right side so i could bail in case of more drama. Chris said the Cop was grinning His ***, said He had been driving the swing beat between Mill Valley & Bolinas on One for 25 years & had never had so much fun....pegged me as the very best chase He'd ever had, was astonished @ the car i did it with.....Coro didnt even have front sway bar. Just Pro-Trac Bias 60's & a nose dive,,,but two days before i shredded the left rear, & i threw on a CN-36 Radial.....the Officer didnt see that.
Apparently He never called in,,,, He issued no citation, Chris did not go to jail, He had my name from a prescription bottle in back seat.
I was stopped a couple days later & no warrant turned up. Unforgettable night! In my Bible,,, Small Blocks rule.
