New 440 build issues

But I'm his defense, he was getting advice from a race engine builder that built my tranny. He wasn't listening.....lol
if the stall is too high for the 3.23 when cruising it will be slipping

No no. That's when I mash the pedal. Initial at idle is around 13.6-14.1. Light throttle and cruising around 12.8- 13.2
That’s what I was addressing - you wrote “But still hits 18+ when pedal mashed” - that’s due to not enough accelerator pump delivery causing it to go lean when you mash the throttle.

So whatcha think?

You need a bigger accelerator pump shooter and/or move the link to the inside hole on an Edelbrock, or on a Holley style carb, possible a different pump cam, larger shooter and maybe a larger size pump.

If you are changing the carb out to this Brawler 850 you might as well wait to see what it does first. It may have a richer accelerator pump circuit on it that takes care of the problem.

If you decide to stick with an Edelbrock try moving the pump link to the inner hole and see if the AFR still spikes when you mash the gas. If it’s still high, but better, then see what size shooter jets you have on it and get a larger one.

I have extra shooters to try. And I'm in the middle now..

Did you ever tell us what kind of car that WE are working on and show us a picture of it?

But here's the next on the block with 440. This time with an edelbrock top end. Should be easy...fingers crossed

Guess technically that's what we are working on...

It's the PT I'm working on as a model to put into the GTX so I have no issues.

Here's what it looked like a few years ago. I got it from a guy that was trying to re do it. Had health issues, the sold it. Then that guy had health issues. So I'm next in line..lol
