NEW car features: What do you like, what do you HATE ?

I buy a new RAM every 2 -3 years. I'm certain I wouldn't if it wasn't tax deductible for my small business. The things I hate most is not being able to get a cd player like mentioned previously and also the little shifter buttons on the actual shifter handle. I was always bumping it and downshifting. The only thing I really like is the warranties that come with new vehicles.

I hate the smart glass, especially on the new Challenger's, this is the feature where the window drops down when you open the door. They freeze shut in the winter and you have to pry the door open, and the switches go bad and the window starts going up and down by it's self killing the battery. I have 2 of these cars and lot's of trouble out of this. Now FCA have discontinued the switch and you have to buy the whole door latch to get it.

on my 2014 ram, had a recall update then they updated a saftey thing so when you back up and open the drivers door to see the side of your truck it throws the damn thing into park, back-up camera is nice for finding the ball under your hitch though. I drive alot on job sites and occasional buddy's farm with no seat belt, ding ding ding. A young friend told me how to turn it off, I googled it, sure as hell turn ignition on, without starting connect your seat belt and disconect three time within a min. then shut it off then turn back on and wah la no more ding, ding, ding every 10 seconds. and by the way a friend of min runs escort for wide load for semi's he has a 2006 ram with the 5.7 hemi has over 500,000 miles and that was two years ago haven't seen him, orig. motor and trans.

I forgot that Ram trucks now have a shifter DIAL instead of a handle! UGH !
Also, being in a region that does not snow, stuff like "Traction control" are useless to me, especially when the trucks don't make enough power to peel out in the dry pavement. Mine will spin on wet roads but only on turns.

my 2014 u can turn off traction control button on dash hit one time. in my hell cat touch it once and you can burn out in a straight line then it kicks in when you start to wander, hold it for five seconds it dings then you need to be real careful

I have thought about just driving the Satellite every day. We drove these cars daily in the 60's, some even with 4:10 gears and never thought anything of it!:thumbsup:

I worked with/for 125 dealerships, facility management co.
for near 30 years

I use to drive all the newest cars/trucks all the time

not so much now

My newest vehical is a
02 F-350 extra cab 4x4 7.3ltr Powerstroke 5 speed *
(tow rig, costly to keep maintained, but my dad loves to drive it,
I barely put any miles on it anymore, he drives it like a DD, go figure
)
moderately optioned, it only has about 125k,
it'll be a while before it gets replaced

my DD is a 99 Dakota SLT 4x4 extra cab 5.2ltr auto
moderately optioned
it only had 59k, it'll be another 20+ years before I replace it

then there's my 68 RR, little to no creature comforts
the way I like my "muscle-cars to be"
not necessarily the way I want a daily driver

Unless Ram/Dodge makes a new Dakota 4x4
or a Raptor style 'fun performance truck'

I don't need or drive a sedan
If I was I'd buy a 300 or a Charger
my sisters 2017 300 is really nice

I almost bout a new 2017 Grand Cherokee SRT (in Jan-2018)
loaded with every option available, off the lot
it was being auctioned off by the local Dodge dealership (long story)
a few of the bells & whistles I didn't like
or more so I don't really need, or the extra cost
But;
it sold for way under low blue book, final bid was like 20K
I kick myself now, I should have bought it
But;
resale you need it, all of it or they are near worthless in 5 years
without all the damn bells & whistles/options
I was bidding on a 2018 Ram Rebel & a 2018 Power Wagon,
both went over what I wanted to spend....

I don't like any of the radio or touchscreen BS
not a huge fan of the air suspension stuff,
but they ride really nice
Or the raidos in any of the new cars
the Nav BS or Sat radio 'oh Hell no'
I can read a damn map before I leave or use the phone
I usually just listen to FM in my driving anyway
I guess a Cassette player & CD like my Dakota has
'is waaaaaay out of touch, late 90's'

My biggest gripe in most the newer cars I've driven is
all the plastic, gaudy interiors, hard or narrow uncomfortable seats
20" wheels with little to no sidewalls on the tires
(I have no problem with the bigger wheels if they are with tires, with some side wall
or on a hot rod/ Pro-Touring etc
.)
I live in an area where the roads get fucked up/potted from snow
& big logging truck etc., rough roads & you feel all the chuckholes
& I hate all the engine covers under-hood

Now the power & handling of the new stuff is freaken' awesome
at-least the rigs I drove were all way better power & handling
than the 1990's or 2000's era

I like having the biggest baddest engine available
I prefer a manual trans, but todays autos are really freaken' good
I like to have power windows
I like to have power steering
I like to have power locks
I like cruise control, as long as I'm in control
I like to be able to select what ever gear I want
I love some nice cold A/C
I like some nice taller/wider wheels & tires
I like a nice metallic paint (green is my favorite color)
I like an extra cab at a min, if it's a truck,
4 dr isn't necessary, but hard not to get one now
I like leather interior, but both my trucks don't have it now

the rest is overkill

carry on

I don't ever have new cars but my wife gets one every few years. I was always amazed that new cars don't have ashtrays anymore.
So we're encouraging folks to flick cigarette butts out the window now?

Now that the Coronet has EFI, I’m done with modern car updates. When I hit the gas, i want to be ******* SCARED. That’s what is lacking in the new Challenger.

If you think trucks are worthless after 5 years price an 05 model with 200k plus on the clock and rusted out.
They are worthless to.....

Wait for it......

Wait......

The dealer on trade in.

They want your left and right one when they sell it.

Keyless doors are the biggest load of **** ever! I've had to upgrade to a new(er) car recently so I bought the most basic performance car I could get that suits my needs and it's great, except the keyless locks. I stand next to the car like a lemon waiting for it to recognise I'm there, when all I had to do before was press a button. Then it keeps unlocking spontaneously, when I'm not even near the damn car. I also have to keep the keys in a metal tin to stop thieves boosting the signal and stealing the car apparently. A solution to a problem that didn't exist.

Speaking from the body shop end of this..........
We love backing cameras and sensors, since those started coming as standard equipment we are doing many more backing up damaged cars and trucks.
We had one gal totally destroy her husbands golf cart with her suv thinking her cell phone was ringing / texting :D.
Guys trying to hook up to trailers using the camera , ect ect.
Its great keep the self driving **** coming, cha ching.

Keyless doors are the biggest load of **** ever!

I agree. I am not a fan of the electronics in places where something mechanical was before. My key fob for my 2007 Ram will NOT unlock the doors if it is below 40 degrees. I have to actually stick the key in the door to unlock it. Imagine if there were NO lock cylinder !

I drive a 800.00 beater Corolla ,,.. 5 years so far.. best 800.00 bucks spent.. looking at new cars.. and the prices they ask for those.. No thank you..

I agree here in Michigan it freezes a lot. On my 2012 Challenger I keep a butter knife in the trunk. I slide it along the weatherstrip edge to allow the window to drop so I can open the door.

This is an easy one..

I like...

The fact that you can run just about any new car 100,000 + miles without touching them other than the normal oil and filter changes.

The added comfort of modern seating and interiors.

How smooth and efficient they are.

What I hate...

All the go go gadget crap that you don't want.

The rims with zero dish.

The fact that half the car is plastic.

Having to take it somewhere to get a scan.

The bearings are non serviceable.

All parts are throw away and replace.

Car talk shows about modern cars are talking like 10 year old cars are hard to find parts for.
Wife’s 06 Daytona has 50k and like new. Plan to keep it. Current new cars have so much **** on them, how the hell will it pay it repair them in the future. Sensors everywhere. Ahead, blind spot, et al. A modern car with a moderate front hit deploying all bags may be a nightmare for any future owner. Think of the dash lights, car won’t move because it “thinks something or someone is in front of it. Reports of Teslas at body shops for months waiting for parts. Now you need a rental car for 3 months intead of 3 weeks. Talk about insurance cost.

The minute they start talking about all the newest "state of the art" gadgets the only thing I can think of is, I wonder what that's going to cost some poor bastard to get repaired?
