Of course, all those shows are set-ups. There's no way that you can completely renovate a house in 8 weeks, unless you have everything ready to go beforehand and you have a crew of people working like dogs watch from the get-go. I like to watch those home reno shows once in a while, but you'll notice that each one of those shows has their own scripted formula that they play over and over again in every episode.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. This whole project should have been completed by early fall, but because the builder has a bunch of things going on at once, there's no way that he can devote all his time to one project. And it's the same thing we see with body shops when we deliver our cars to them. It always seems to be the exception when someone comes in on time and on budget.
Until the plasterers and painters screwed things up, we have been very happy with the quality of work that's been done and we kept justifying the quality of the job versus the length of time it's been taking. However, there are things that should have been done and could have been done easily months ago instead of now; the middle of February and that has been extremely frustrating. I describe this project to everyone as being painfully slow and in addition to the length of time this is taking, our budget is completely blown out of the water and we aren't done yet. But, I do see the end finally coming (as far as time in concerned) and I think I have a good handle on what's left with remaining costs.
I've been involved with many home reno projects myself, but this project was way out of my abilities. Knowing what I know now, I would have chosen another builder, but live and learn. But that being said, I don't think that I'll ever get into a whole house renovation or build ever again.
Once things progress a bit more, I'll throw some more pictures up.
