I was watching this new show that comes on after Fast & Loud on Mondays. Best part of the show was when they bought a 68 Camaro. They were working on it when a customer comes in and they tried to sell the car to him. They tried to sell on uniqueness and asked "who do you know that's driving around in a '68 Camaro?" and the customer says "lots of people!" Finally, some reality in a reality show. :)

I saw that also. Then I changed the channel, lol!

Id rather watch the Dukes of hazard reruns on Tv instead ...I know the hokiness and cheese that Im getting

They finally came up with a car show that I can't watch.

I figured if I could give Graveyard Carz a chance, I could give this one a try. :) Actually the show is sort of a clone of Fast & Loud, so it's another of these more talking about cars than working on cars shows.

On the plus side, it was great watching what happened when the two younger guys who bought the Camaro to restore it got a serious reality check when they went to sell it. These guys were obviously Chevy guys and raving about how much money they were going to make with it. Then they took the finished car to a show held by a Camaro club and those guys gave the guys the bad news their car wasn't unique, wasn't special, wasn't numbers matching, and wasn't worth nearly what they thought. They thought they were going to make $30,000+ in profit and show their Dads, who own the shop, that they shouldn't be doing just grunt work and should be focusing on working on cars, and instead they barely broke even. :) That made the show worth watching.

I'll watch it a couple episodes, make a decision then... I like it better than some car shows & not as much as others... just entertainment so far... I'll watch almost any car show over the other lame chit on TV... I did like the reality that the kids learned thou... Dad's not always wrong, no matter how much they think so... Lesson learned !! Dad's made something like $3200 & kids made $800, out of the $4k profit, it sold for less than $30k {IIRC $27k, with a build cost of $23k}, kids got 20% share instead of the 80% share of profits, all because of the bet, they could sell it for over $30k, they would have got 80%, but $800 it's better than nothing... now get back to sweeping & mopping...LOL... I wish they would have kept the 351 in the 32 Ford, instead of the obligatory SBC, I know they were doing a American Graffiti type of theme, but didn't real adhere to that much either, except the 6 deuces & a SBC... I also liked the Halibrand's & wider tires, much better than the chrome reverse wheels & white walls, that they used... pretty cool car either way thou, nice Black paint

I didn't think it was too bad for the first episode. We'll see how it holds up after a few more. One thing I liked about it and the same for Fast N Loud - they aren't bitching at and hating on each other like some shows. The unrealistic short deadlines are getting to be an old schtick with these shows, though.

They should do a real car show without all the drama they think the viewers want to see, I myself would like to see a show where you actually see a frame off resto project every step of the way until completed ! Not some show that does it all in a half hour! One car would be the whole season or more if needed,I think it would be a great ideal for a show.

Agreed, but here's the problem. That would be too slow and boring for Hollyweird and most of the audience. It's the same reason movies and shows about firefighting are like Backdraft. Lots of spectacular bright flames with little smoke - and SCBA is optional. LOL In real life, you can't see a thing in most burning buildings, and you can't hear firefighters talking very well with their air masks on. It would be all dark with muffled voices if it were realistic, No one would watch.

I like the way Wheeler Dealers does it. They just mention all the common stuff Ed does, then go real in-depth on two or three unusual things he does. I don't know how interesting it would be to sit there watching six or seven episodes where a guy is doing nothing but say sanding for an hour, or going "okay, that was the first nut. Now watch me take the other four nuts off." :)

A few years ago when Dennis Gage had a car show ( which I liked) There were a couple of guys that had a very informative show. They plugged a lot of sponsors parts, but even that was worth watching . What was that show and what happened to it?........................MO

He's still on, along with his mustache, on Velocity I think.

Absolutely agree. They even show you that you don't get rich off a single car flip.
It's not unusual for them to make $500 or less profit per car.

That show has been very educational for me, regarding some of the iconic European cars I knew a little or almost nothing about.

They also still have fun driving the cars on back roads or different tracks.

It's a nice balance, with most of the "meat" being value analysis, inspection, diagnostic, parts source, and actual hands on tech.

Steve - that's My Classic Car. It's on MAV TV now - at least it is on my cable system.

I got a kick out of the show last night. This babe comes to the shop with an old truck she wants fixed up, and the pretty boy son is all over her. The Dad is telling her the hard facts of life, while the moron son is busy trying to swing a deal for her. They end up taking the project at a price she can afford to pay, but they are at risk. Then the Dad starts seeing expensive parts showing up, and here the son has been talking to this gal and she's just tossing her wish list at him and he's telling her no problem. :)

Long story short, they get the truck done and have to eat the cost over-runs, then they deliver the truck to the girl and junior starts asking her out and she shuts him down with an "I already have a boyfriend" remark. :) Hopefully the moron will learn you don't mess sex with business... a lesson I'm guessing the dad learned the hard way too.

The best part was when the girl gets out of the truck in a tank top and daisy dukes, and everyone in the shop has to come out to check out... the truck. The owner tells them to get back to work, and says how any other time he has to drag guys out to look at a project. Ah yes, guys really are the same everywhere.

Same formula for another stupid car show where they argue for most of the show and do 5 mins of work. My daughter said the one young guy needs his eyebrows manscaped. Maybe then he could get a chick.

Best Fast and Loud was when he bought the old Mopar at auction for $4500 and took it back and sold it at a different auction for $800 the next week. Plus he had to tell the bidders he would give them $100 to bid on it, so he was out $100 of the $800.

He normally sells some cars nobody would want for outrageous prices, like the Chevy Station Wagon with the blower through the hood they added for something like 43K. A lot of what he buys is just crap. A lot of what he sells is way overpriced crap.

I think a lot of what they sell is attention for buyers who are willing to pay outrageous prices so they can be on TV. Gas Monkey Garage does sell a lot of cars that don't appear on the show, mainly on eBay, and these are priced far lower than the show cars are. What I do like about the show is they take chances, like that Fairmont drift car, the hideous green gasser, the Yugo, the Gremlin, etc., instead of just making safe bets like Camaros, Corvettes, and other popular cars. I get tired of seeing shows like Wrecks to Riches where the shop always comes out the winner in the end. No shop is really like that. At least the GMG guys show you the warts along with the roses. :)

As for the Ugly Kid guys who paid $43k for that station wagon, yeah, the car wasn't worth it, but how much advertising and national exposure did they get for that $43k? Probably ten times that much, which was what they were after. Same with Earnhart/Mountain Dew, the guy from the Mavericks, etc.

I gave up on Rods and Wheels after about 2 1/2 episodes. I just couldn't deal with the bad acting and delivering of the scripted lines. The worst is the dad of the muscle bound guy. His reading of the lines is really bad. The obviously scripted storylines are too much. I know other shows may be just as contrived, but some of them come off as more authentic and believable (Gas Monkey).
