Novel Coronavirus Situation Currently (facts, not hype)

@BeatersRus Man, didn't know you were sick with this crap. Hope you're well out of the woods now. The Houston area hasn't been hit very hard 'yet' and I hope it isn't but got a feeling it's going to be....

Not necessarily. As the CDC statistics show, the numbers of new cases has been dropping
the last few days.
Hope that trend continues.

@BeatersRus
get well soon

@Cranky I had read something the other day

to paraphrase; not a direct quote
the colder the climate, the easier or more frequently
it's spread, people are in close quarters & shut in with each other
& it seems in them colder areas & it can/does spread (faster ???, not sure)
these types of viruses, but then usually always peter out
when it's warmer climates & warmer weather too

I recently had a good conversation with family,
2 of my siblings whom are licensed & practicing Dr.'s
at my cousin Stan's 61st BD bash friday
about;
Highly populated Inner-shitty's where people don't have any space
& living all right on top of each other,
living like lab rats (seems fitting)
coughing, sneezing, rubbing their eyes, or touching their mouths
& then mindlessly, they are all touching everything around them !!!

Of course, it's a far worse of condition, to contain the ****,
far less personal space or hygene
most/many having to use public transit, busses cabs, subways,
or touching common surface areas, that the general public constantly touch
all contribute, to it spreading much faster

Allegedly; to paraphrase of course, that according to the AMA
Via my bros. & sister
Just before we had the Industrial Revolution early 1900's
when most people in USA were still all farm bound, had space,
not all on-top of each other & not living like lab rats in the Big Shitty's
this stuff didn't spread as fast as today !!!
Now when most the populous is concentrated in certain/select areas
the Midwest/North & the East are the most populated,
70% of our 333,000,000 now live east of the Mississippi
& north & east Ohio River valleys &/or on the coastal regions/masses...
also they just found out in the past week or so
that it will live on objects & surfaces much longer than previously thought...

Especially now with world travel made so easy,
Air Travel especially, it just hitches a ride back to points anywhere...
(albeit cruise ships, also seem to be petri dishes today too)

Rural counties are hit far less
so far, thank God

Bad drinking water at Camp Lejeune in 1970 plus all this, I have had a good life(other than the Bee not back yet!)Not complaining at all.

The CDC issued this advisory today:
"Guidance as of 3/15/2020
Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing. When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual.

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses. This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials."

Statistics provided by the CDC and the WHO as of today:
(Lots of variables here, of course - different methods of testing, timelines of infestations, etc.)

Confirmed Fatal Recovered
China 80851 3199 (4%) 66931 (83%) (13% ongoing)
Italy 24747 1809 (7.3%) 335 (1.3%) (91.4% ongoing)
USA 3680 68 (1.8%) 59 (1.6%) (96.6% ongoing)

Global 169354 6571 (3.8%) 76598 (45.2%)(51% ongoing)

Well, as of 1:00am today (Monday 16 March), all passengers arriving from anywhere in the world (except the Pacific Islands) are to be in self-isolation for 14 days before being allowed to explore or venture out in public. Harsher and more strict policies coming in the next few days. All our travelling sports teams have rushed back home to avoid this quarantine measure...except the Rugby League team..(Warriors) - they have elected to stay in Australia where all the other teams in the league are based.

Health officials have ramped up their presence at airports in New Zealand as tougher travel restrictions came into force today.

From 1am today all travellers who enter the country, except from Pacific Island countries, must go into isolation for 14 days.

Since the announcement of the new restrictions airlines have been overwhelmed with calls, and are asking for patience from their customers.

The tourism industry also say they'll be affected by the new rules and are predicting widespread job losses.

But Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says a relief package will be unveiled on Tuesday to try to mitigate the blow.

So far New Zealand has eight confirmed cases of Covid-19 as two more people tested positive yesterday.

Across the globe, there is chaos at US airports after new health screening measures came into force for people returning from Europe.

In Britain, every person over the age of 70 will be told "within the coming weeks" to stay at home for an extended period.

Polyfest, which was due to take place this week in Auckland, has been called off. Follow our blog for the latest updates.

It follows the cancellation of Pasifika last weekend amid fears the coronavirus could spread.

Polyfest was called off following meetings between the Polyfest Trust and the Auckland Regional Public Health Service.

This is to prevent Community outbreak. Unlike what the UK PM has proposed....herd immunity by infecting as many as possible. I wish we could export a select few over there to be involved in that experiment. :)

The UK's plan to let the deadly coronavirus spread through the population in an attempt to force a form of herd immunity left microbiologist Siouxsie Wiles in tears on Sunday.

Dr Wiles, who has been the public face of the scientific community's response to the virus here in New Zealand, said it's simply "insane".

"I had a little cry yesterday because I heard what Boris Johnson is doing," she told The AM Show on Monday.

"Half-a-million people might die in the UK because of the way they've decided they're going to deal with this virus."

So far, there have been about 166,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. More than 6000 have died so far, mostly older people, but young people are able to catch and transmit the disease. The UK has lost 35 people, 21 of them in the past 24 hours, and cases are growing exponentially, with 342 confirmed in the past day, bringing the total to 1372.

@Chargerjase ...I hope you are safe and get back home OK. Maybe consider staying a bit longer this trip.

No gatherings of more than 250 people, many large restaurant chains are closed (take out only), most if not all of our ski resorts closed at end of day today, mandatory self quarantine if you return from another country and it gets crazier by the minute. We have at least six with it in our little town of 4800 and growing by the day. The laughter has stopped, by most at least. I have a wife who's lungs have been toast since she was a young teen thanks to some ahole Doctor that gave her cortizone puffers and scarred her lung tissue, which causes her blood not to absorb oxygen like they should so we're honkered down and I'm getting house renos done. Thankfully my best friend is my Doctor if we need him...

Any unticketed events where numbers are over 500 (I think) here are also being cancelled. I guess the ticketed part means that people are traceable should the worst possible case scenario happens.

Iowa Gov has asked for schools to close for the next 4 weeks. 250 folks per gathering and less Des Moines area. asking for 50 people and less rest of the state. Took weight limits off trucking for now hauling food, supplies , medical ect.
we have 20 some cases in the state so it sounds like she is trying to get ahead of things.
Time will tell.

We’re at no more than 50 people to gather for any reason in California. All bars, nightclubs, wineries etc are ordered closed. Restaurants can stay open but at max half capacity. Also asking everyone over 65 to stay ho,e and self isolate for the foreseeable future. They say they have the capacity for Marshall law should the need arise. God I hope not.

No more than 50 in one spot?
My whore of an ex wife is going to be pissed. This will really cut into her activities.
(Joke)

Thanks Roger, I am still in Australia at present. I am lucky that I am on a rig and its heavily controlled, so no virus out here. I am due back Saturday, so that will be interesting. I will just use common sense and hope the authorities do the same. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

The guess that means the Beach Hop will be cancelled this year. Bummer, I was all set to go.

no more than 500 over here too , and they are talking about canceling the football( NRL and AFL) as well now ( so the warriors ( we beat them on the weekend, knights ) wont have anything to do ). VIC and ACT have declared state of emergency , its getting BAD

Chappel-Hadley was in an empty stadium as well.

MA Governor, Charlie Baker (rhymes with faker), closed schools for 3 weeks and banned gatherings of more than 25 people. There goes my son's wedding on April 3rd. The date is important to them as that was the day that they first met, so we told them to have a small gathering of immediate family members at our house and still have their wedding, then have the festivities at the venue when things clear up.

We've got a flight to Honolulu & 7-day cruise scheduled for early June, so we'll have to see how things are doing at that time.
