I cant leave without saying thank you personally Speedy!! Means a lot buddy!

Looks like you're rolling right along Ron! Good idea to just take the work in smaller doses. A lot better then burning yourself out, while everything else is not getting done in life around you. The biggest thing needed to complete restorations on these old Mopars, is not having all the fancy tools, fancy shop and cutting edge equipment........It's having the heart & passion to do it. I'm sure you'll keep pegging away, a bit at a time and in the end have the car you always wanted. Take Care and Happy Moparing!

BTW...As far as your Blair bits, you can sharpen the rotobroach bits. It takes a good set of eyes and a small precision file, but can be done. I believe a replacement 3pc. 3/8" set from Blair is about $30. If you use their rotobroach lube and/or any type of oil (be it penetrating, machining or plain old motor oil/trans fluid..ect...ect), you will dramatically extend the life of the bits and have faster cutting power.

Also if you can slow down your drill that'll help also. I found the low setting on my cordless worked best.

Great to see you at it Ron. It's not about how fast you get things done, it's all about the journey and enjoyment you get from doing it bit by bit. Enjoy.

Thanks much Will! Im sure at my speed being burnt out wouldn't happen soon.. The hardest part for me is the times when its physically not going to happen getting out there and my head says "lets go bro!" lol, kind of a strange way to put it i reckon but real enough, I agree with you 100 % about the heart and passion, the excitement of it all, im in no way disappointed in my little shop and my lets say cheaper equipment, I love what im doing and especially what im working on, ive had some very cool Chevy's, and as much as i wouldn't mind having another of the same and the 63 Impala SS is the one that comes to mind a lot when thinking about them, It would not be as fun as a Mopar, i always liked them more then any other car i ever had, the 68,69, and 70 RR's were and are at the top of my list... If there is anyway i can physically do another car when this one is done it will be a 70 RR or a 71-74 Charger...
Your right about life's going on's and its been a hoot, Today my oldest daughters husband totaled there Durango, she has my wife's car now to go and pick him up, praise the Lord he's ok, Durango another story and it takes an hour to get where he is so, i just pray they get back in one piece and Sue's car lol, My car is froze solid from the frezzin rain this mornin so she took the wifes and she needs that in the AM.. reminds me of a song, at least the title of it.. "Oh what a night" this morning helping Gabby girl down the frozen steps i didn't know about until the bus came i was thinking going to be one of those days lol, im used to them but seems we could spread them out just a might! rofl... All in all, it's not been a bad day, i got some garage work done and i found out the inside of the d-side rocker is good as can be, something i was worried about and grateful as could be when i peeled back the floor enough to see down thru.. Cant beat that!! ill find out more when i can get the entire floor out but someone really put some serious patches on the floor with screws and i don't even know what else that has to come out but drilling the spot welds out down thru the drivers side and seeing good that side of the rocker, man i was a happy camper and i will get some pictures of it all soon i hope... Thank you sir..

monroegtx You couldn't be more right on the journey and enjoyment im getting with this car, im buttoned in for the winter and my only regret is my 73 sitting outside for the second winter, maybe i will be able to get a car port next year if things work out right, i cant have this, my old friend outdoors on a night like this and this is a fairly good one, wind is blowing thru the trees out there and to me that's a nice sound with the fire going and my two ladys sound asleep now lol... Thank you!!

69 GTX, I took your advice today with drilling slower, and i do have some cutting oil i keep around for the drill press, it very well may help! thank you much!

Glad to see you getting some time in on your bird. Hopefully i'll be doing some progress on mine now that I have some parts to work with. Glad to here Gabby is feeling better now. OH, Vicky is sending something in the mail for you guys. It's not much, but comes from the heart. Got ya thinking now, lol.

Well Roger i think i gave up when you say your going to send something, i cant seem to argue with any way of winning and i just cant pull up stakes and get a new address! besides, if i did that, something tells me id get a note in the mail saying "congrats on your new home!" lol I may be wrong but i seen first hand in your home away from home how you find places, you a very sneaky feller my friend.... I guess when you were walking up the drive way and i met ya out there with the shot gun and yelled "who are ya and what ya want" im just not that scary lookin am i lol?, i remember, you laughed and said don't shoot, oh well, its fun to have the fun... and you are fun! Thanks buddy what ever your up to, i still win on the hood hee hee...

Hi fellas, I got a bit more work done.. I bought a shock crossmember from Mark (moparmark) and i started to get it cleaned up, And for the record, i don't think i could have got a repo with this much metal in it, this is in great shapei! THANKS Mark, were blessed to have a guy on here to help us with these parts we need and all the help!!! :) blasted it on each end to get what i call those ear tabs good but in the middle it was as smooth and clean as could be, i just couldn't see wasting the oxide and besides, i got enough in my toe today! I where a special shoe and im usually more careful but i must have got it wet going in and out of the shop because that aluminum oxide somehow went thru my sox, bandage and right in the hole in my toe, man what a mess at shower time!!! But anyway it took a lot of chiseling and stuff to get the original under coating off but we got it in good order, I wish the pictures could show it as it really looks but after i finished with all the cleaning and what blasting i did, I used Eastwood and its covered with it except where im certain it will be welded and if i covered a spot that will need it, ill just have to grind this stuff off, kind of what you do to get it off your skin lol!!! But here is some pictures..More to come! Winter is ok even for guys like me who get cold easy,,, Just stay indoors :) lol

Ron,

Looks like you are making some awesome progress! For me, it was kind of scary to dig in to my Road Runner project, and it can seem like there is no end in sight... ...but, take it slow and enjoy small victories as you go along. I remember celebrating when I got my K-member all cleaned up and painted. Still couldn't do a darn thing with it, but I celebrated and drug my poor wife out to check it out none the less!

Keep going and little by little it will take shape. You will have setbacks, but you will also make steady progress. We along for the ride, and it will be great to follow along!

Depending on where you are in the country, maybe I can stop by on my cross country journey and let you wife take out another 70 Road Runner 4 speed for a spin!

Hawk

Dang sharp looking X-Member Ron! Usually those things look like they were welded on with magma, at the rails. Mark did a real good job getting you a decent piece.

Hawk, im always scared to tear in a project car but, until i do im not having the fun i have! Your 70 is looking great bud and as much as i enjoy the building i will be glad to get where you are! Thank you sir...

Roger It took a couple days of chiseling and blasting, scraping lol, all that stuff, but yep its looking real good and im happy with it!!!Thank ya bud!!

Will, Mark is a good member here to deal with for sure and i don't think i was telling anything but the truth about this having more metal in it then a repo, i could be wrong but ill say that this is thicker metal then the one i took off, mine the shock holes were wore out pretty good and the ears i call them were not in good shape and i didn't want to chance it with everything else being new.. Thank you sir!!!

I thank all you who are following, its fun to be a part of a shop full of guys doing the same things and enjoying it!! :)

My thoughts exactly.

Keep up the good work Ron, it'll pay off in the end.

One good thing about lousy weather outside, it makes a good time for garage work! That is if hunting seasons closed ;0)

He must have been magical with getting that out that clean. Those things like you stated I think were welded by blind men with no welding experience

Ron, I enjoy reading your posts. You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

I think the guy who put mine in was blind & had vertigo!

I thank you all for everything, advice, and inspiration, and i can use it!! I agree with you guys with the patience Mark had to have to get that out of the car, It is as far as im concerned better then a repo, cleaning it is something we have to do with every part and Mark makes it better, this was from a 66 B-body, if all the parts he got from that is that good im all for it, im going to be in need of the torsion cross-member after CHRISTMAS, lol i hope its off the same car!!! and im sure others will benefit from Marks patience and work!

AND i hope to have another update in the near future~~ Thanks gentleman....

Everything is looking great Ron. One thing at a time and eventually you will have a car again........baby steps. I have bought several things from Mark too. He is a great guy and always sends nice parts.

No hurry hear for sure and i do want to make it right and i want to enjoy it, and that i am... Thanks Joel!
