Radiator hose blows off thermostat housing

Did we ever see a photo of it? Photos of the hose on and off. Let's see what the t-stat housing looks like with the hose off. Who knows what's going on here.
I'll post a photo shortly.

Paint on the neck of housing will cause the hose to slip off.
Didn't all factory engines have a painted water neck?
Most engines people assemble they paint the water neck, yet as far as I know this is not a common problem.

I never painted that. That's how I got it. I could sand it down a little, but I think I want one with a lip.
 
Yes. Very odd. I've got a chrome one that has a lip, but I could never get it to seal right at the manifold

They sure are. I just put the chrome one I have on my work bench and it wobbles. Ugh. The one I just took off -- the one with no lip -- is perfectly flat. I'm getting a new one with a lip
 
Test and/or replace the radiator cap, and for sure get a thermostat cover with a lip so the hose won't just slide off.
 
No issues with a chrome water neck here....

Just file flat & remove the chrome from the gasket surface.
 
You've got a tiny coolant leak somewhere. When the cooling system finally got low enough, the remaining coolant boiled and popped the hose off.
The radiator cap, if it didn’t malfunction, would have released the pressure before the pressure was great enough to blow off the hose. It seems to me that the issue was a hose clamp not completely tightened or a faulty thermostat housing.
 
There"s a shrink wrap type
hose clamp that works great
without any formed tube
end. They work great, as I
am using them on my build.
They're guaranteed not to
leak and are easy to install.




They work with tube/tube or tube/hose connections,
and rough oŕ out of round surfaces.

I use the stock spring hose clamps on my car but I put contact cement on the ends so that they don’t leak. It seems to work for me for the last 20 years.
 
At $6 a shrink wrap clamp (and not to mention what a bitch it might be to pull that hose back off if needed) I'll stick to my regular clamps thank you.

I only suggested these to the
OP as the gooseneck on his
engine has no hose barb.
These shrinkwrap clamps
are designed for just that
purpose.
6 bucks for a clamp, or
20 bucks for a gooseneck?
