For what it's worth I run The Motive street gerss in the Dana 60 in my racecar. They've been better than any other brand I've tried. Including a Pro gear from US gear.

Dangit, now you made me curious! Gonna have to go out and see if I can find out who made the gears in my new speedmaster center.Soo.. here is something i found interesting.. i have been reading around about gear manufacturers and all that.. And read that Motive/Richmond are the same parent company and some people said they are still 2 different plants/manufacturing lines for each and other people said it's the same product with 2 names...
Then i ran into this which is less than half of what i see them for sale anywhere else..

I actually called Motive a few mins ago to ask a guy if they know of knockoffs or fakes or anything (cause anything can be now) and he said no... some vendors will blow stuff out to get numbers up and it's probably real..
I asked him bout richmond/motive and he said all Richmond are still make in italy and Motives can be from any of 4 different "Cheap" countries.. my word not his... He also confirmed motives are quieter since they aren't so performance orientated..
I just found that interesting is all and was nice to learn from the actual company. And i swear all my wrong bullshit comes from LS forums when i do google searches... can't believe ****. For $115 i might just try though.... that's a crazy price and i will never make enough power to break em.
Well.. i'm getting tired of putting **** together 3 times.. literally every part of this car i have put together and taken apart at least twice (other than the motor, but that's coming) so.. hoping to at least do this properlyDangit, now you made me curious! I did check pattern and backlash when it came in. Quite nice. And frankly, if they don't break, a little noise won't bother me. I probably won't be able to hear it anyway (my girlfriend says she has to see, hear, and smell for me too)
4.30, one of motives dealers is blowing them out for $115 a set for 742s, discontinued. I will post pics of the pattern tonight (god i hope it goes well) and then see how they sound in a day or 2.. I should start at .090 and work up or down from there? What gear ratio? Let us know how they go and especially once you can try them out.
Unclear. 4.89 gear ratio, or for a 489 case.BTW, they also have 4.89s listed for $128
Actually.. it's 4.86 gears for 742 case.... My brain is ****.. no idea why i jumped to 4.89Unclear. 4.89 gear ratio, or for a 489 case.
Thanks. I've got one of them dust collecting 741 cases too. Mines open/3.55. I'm contemplating one of those dirt cheap ebay clutch sure grips.Ratio, sorry... i didn't look at other cases since i don't have them (well i have a 741 but it's mainly a dust collector)
damn.. soo many tracks closing I have 3 within 90 minutes of me but haven't been in a decade... i am broken inside and can't do **** alone so i don't do ****. Those ebay carriers are tempting... i read they are basically what drdiff uses and just replaces some parts to beef em up. If my cone one goes to **** i will prolly go that way (my cone one might already be ****.. don't know yet)Thanks. I've got one of them dust collecting 741 cases too. Mines open/3.55. My local 1/8th is closing at the end of the year, next nearest is over 100 mi away.
Lots less racing gonna be done now.
Cone ones can definitely be rehabbed.damn.. soo many tracks closing I have 3 within 90 minutes of me but haven't been in a decade... i am broken inside and can't do **** alone so i don't do ****. i figured it would be near the cost of a new carrier, but will cross the bridge when i come to it. Hell with my tires and my lack of power i don't think a suregrip will need to be very sure to gripCone ones can definitely be rehabbed.
There are threads on em, for sure on A-bodies, and I think here too.
Yeah, i gave away a really nice old *** lathe when i moved... just too heavy and too much room used to keep itWhen I was working, I could have rehabbed a cone style for nothing. It's basically a couple washers, and some machine work.i didn't have any cone styles at the time (still dont).
Company closed, all those glorious machines, tools, and working stock is long gone.
I could have bought the lathe and Bridgeport for next to nothing: but I had no way to move em, no place to keep em, and no way to power em. (440v, three phase).
Thanks for the help Doug, really appreciate it, i feel like a dummy posting for help Just wait til i make a thread trying to figure out why the TV on my 727 won't work. that one will be fun i'm just glad i have all the gears working. You are correct in your reading of the pattern. More pinion shim is needed. I'd add .010". if it's to deep then you can zero in instead of makiking .003" at a time a bunch of times. Earlier I thought you said you had a 489 case. Hence my pinion shim starting number and location in post 27. Since it's a 742 case .090" under the pinion was a good starting point.
