Roadbird's 1970 Roadrunner restoration.

Are you going to try to 'fix' those qtrs? I would think you'd want to replace them as a whole!

Probably only the passenger side because there was some body work done to pull out a large dent that was on the quarter. I know this because I could see between the inner quarter and the outer side of the wheel well. I could also see holes seeping with old body filler in the inner quarter panel, basically they used a drill and slide hammer to pull the damage out on that panel, bondo'd it and smoothed and painted it.
But before I do that I'm going to blast the roof skin and drill out the tack welds with my Blair tack weld remover drill bits and remove the roof skins. After that I'm blasting the quarters and removing them and replacing the bad metal only with AMD keeping mind to keep and preserving the original factory steel as much as possible.

The left or driver side quarter is in great shape as much as I can see but I'll know more when I blast that area and determine whether it's a keeper or goner. If it's in bad shape after blasting I will replace the whole quarter panel on both sides with AMD and who knows maybe I might as well replace the whole floor and trunk pan. But right now there is still alot of pretty decent metal on the entire car. So who knows mst likely at this point I am looking to just fix and / or replace the damaged areas only. I'll keep you guys posted here of the progress as soon as complete my move into my new place and begin my project on her. Next time I'll post up a list of parts and items I need to have a complete Roadrunner. Can anybody here help me with translating my broadcast sheet codes and pics of what they look like here? Thank you all for your help and support.

Here are some pics of my broadcast sheet. Hoping I can see some pics of what I should be looking for my 70RR any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I agree with Donny. Replacing full quarters will get you fresh metal half way up the C-pillar into your window frame as well as to the deck filler and along the trunk gutters. With Blasting..just my opinion, I would seriously think about leaving the blasting of any part of the roof, trunk lid or hood to the professionals. They warp very easily. As far as a media blaster and a compressor, a 60 gallon will run impact guns, air ratchets, air hammers, needle guns, small die grinders, plasma cutters, flange tools, air drills, air shears, air nibbers, small cut off wheels, schutz guns, some spray guns, and other small misc. items. It will have trouble running most DA Sanders, washboard sanders, butterfly sanders, Air buffers, blasters and booth blasters. Not to say it won't work at all, but it will be very limited run times and like mentioned your compressor will be working overtime. I have an Eastwood #110 media blaster I run off my 80 Gallon 2 stage. Works great for small to medium stuff, but I would not even take a thought to blasting a whole car with it. Runs my small booth blaster decently, but the compressor is on its toes quite a bit. BTW..a booth blaster is priceless when it comes to restoring these cars. You're gonna need a very good Regulator, water/oil separator and some sort of dryer/desiccant system, then an auto oiling for the tools (if you don't manually oil them), for a compressor that size. Also, a decently designed air routing system with sufficient angles, pipe DIA., drops, traps, drains and manifolds. Lotta good stuff out there online or in a book, plus the folks here to lead you in the right direction. One thing's for certain, a decent compressor system in your garage will make life 10 times easier when it comes to working on your car or just in general for home use.

Thanks for the info, I definetly will take that to mind when I go shop for a large air compressor. BTW I was thinking on paying a custom and restoration shop not far from me here to acid dip my whole car and the panels. Have any info on this? Prices seem pretty reasonable at $1,600.

No sweat. William on this site (from Canada eh!) dipped his '71 Plymouth panels/parts panels as was really happy with them. $1600 seems like a pretty fair deal compared to blasting.

Wow, 1600.00 bucks to acid dip it? Remember, you get what you pay for! A HARD lesson I've learned first hand is negotiating something to the cheapest ends usually ends up being cheap, and, you'll hate it/yourself later for doing it 'cheap'.

Thanks for that inspiration but lets try EV2 Torch Red or Hemi Orange with Black vinyl top and T87 road wheels. Any out there?

Well any? Please post some pics here of a 70RR in EV2 Torch Red Iridium / Hemi Orange with some factory Road wheels with 14 F70 RWL. Just would like to see what they look like. Thank you all.

Nice and thank you very much. BTW the Roadrunner dust trail on yours is that a different / extra option code or is it a part of the A87 Roadrunner Decour Package?

Here's a couple 70's in Red Roadbird...Tried to find the orange, but "Hemi Orange" is a 1969 Dodge color for exterior, 1970 Dodge went to "Go Mango". Being it's a Plymouth, are you referring to Vitamin C orange perhaps or actually looking to find one with the actual Hemi Orange on it?

That's the factory stripe. Wish I still had the car.

X2...I think if someone ends up twisting my arm enough to restore another mopar, odds are it will be a 70 RR or GTX....Beautiful cars. Love the body lines.

Alright....someone correct me if i'm wrong please, but I think this is a '70 in Hemi Orange:

This is just a really neat pic....Thinking Vitamin-C though:

Which stripe? The dust trail stripe on the side of the vehicle? Or without stripe?

There is a 1971 Plymouth Cuda in EV2 Torch Red Iridium on the cover of the July 2012 Mopar Muscle Magazine. This color is very similar if not the same color as what I have on my Roadrunner. And with Black performance hood stripe for 1970's and Black Vinyl top and Black F70 R14 RWL raise white letters with 9" dog dish caps on my 14" black steelies I think would look absolutely stunning in my book. BTW I have just closed the deal on the new place for Roxanne the Roadrunner...LOL. And she will be moving in to her new place this Saturday. Will post some pics later this weekend or before I tow Roxanne there and after she arrives there. You are all welcome to comment and gripe all you want...LOL.
