Roger's Roadrunner

Rodger, not sure if you have any Fleet Farm stores down your way but they had the best price on the Hobart 140.I've burnt two 2lb spools of wire through mine far and i like it so far.

I bet you have Jay! Welding mad man on your new GTX.

yeah, we have one of those stores not to far from where i live(30 miles). i just called them when i read your reply and then i called our local store (Theisens),they have it for the same price plus i can put it on layaway if i want. half down and the rest paid off in 30-45 days.So that is the way i am going to go, that way i not spending a chunk of money at one time.

Would love to see how the RamCharger is going for you Roger...I remember the pic's of major rot you posted on that...Lotta surgery! Heard a lot of folks are having pretty good luck with the Hobart 140. Heck, they're owned/made by Miller and made in the same building as the Millermatic 140 and 210 in Appleton, WI. I hear you on the flux core, just a bit too much spatter/slag to deal with for auto metal.

hey will, ramcharger is all primered just have to spray another thick coat b4 i wet sand it.Working on the floor crossmembers next to the frame rails.Have to make them myself.will take some pics.i hear ya on the weld splatter,i'm surprised i haven't set everything around me (including myself) on fire.i have gotten lucky a few times and do get a good weld. Thanks for asking about the ramcharger.

got some stuff done on the RR today with the temp being as nice as it was 60 degrees.finally got the floor cut out.just have a little up by the front seam left to take off.

Way to handle that rust Roger!!!! Good work! Great to see you getting some time to give you bird some lovin.

Also great to hear you still moving along on the Ramcharger! Brings back a lot of memories. My buddy had one in high school we called the Grey Ghost. It was that one vehicle that everyone always ended up piling in and chumming around town at the end of the night..Miss that thing. Good times...Good times.

Keep up the good work!

spent half the morning and most of the afternoon taking the floor out.had dirt and rust piled inside the left crossmember rail. Also found some critter bedding inside the right rocker panel. How the heck do they get in there?

got a little time on the runner today, did get one torsion bar out and got the other soaking.hopefully when i get back home, i can get it loose and then maybe get the old crossmember out and start putting the new metal in.

we are trying these pictures making an attempt at resizing pictures sorry

got some work done on the RR the last couple days.new torsion bar put in,new floor braces on right side, right half of new floor pan in, and put in new metal for the inner rocker panel.Getting used to my new welder and getting pretty good with it since i haven't touched a welder in 20 yrs.Hope the photo's will upload.

thanks swede,i couldn't get as much done as i wanted to.Had 4 of the grandkids up for the weekend. The oldest was 5 and the youngest one there was 10 months and of course the wife had to work the weekend, but grandpa had fun just the same.We don't get the kids that often so we make the most of it when we do have them for the weekend.Hope to see progress on yours soon also.

which one? If it's the 6-pack one the wife wants me to put that one on.

stu, thanks for the vote of confidence.I did have to ask the neighbor's boyfriend to help get the new welder adjusted right, but once he got it for me(found out i wasn't holding the welder tip close enuf)i was all over the new metal like a kid in a candy store with his mom's credit card.

Coming along, with the new welder you'll have things back on track and moving along.. Always, Good luck to you!

thanks ron.It really boosted my confidence when i was making welds as good as you guys were. The new mig welder is working 100% better then the flux-core welder was(but we use what we have). It really makes me want to get out in the garage to get it all welded up.Once i get the floor in,i want to work on the rear window corners and this will help alot.

question for everyone:when i get the other half of the floor in,on the underside of floor hump should i do?
a;make several spot welds?
b;use non-hardening seam sealer?
c;apply soft undercoating where floor and hump overlap?
d;all of the above?
