Hey guys!
Working on my 73 charger, all new engine bay and under dash wiring harnesses. I’ve been working on tuning my carb and twice I leaned in through the open driver side window to turn on the key and shocked my chin, chin was touching windshield trim. It wasn’t a shock like a spark plug would give you , just a pretty good tingle. I’m going to go over all the grounds to recheck them, any comments would be appreciated, even the smart *** ones!
Thanks

Oh boy your asking for it!

but seriously there should be a ground wire from the column mounting bracket to the mounting stud to the dash.

Ya know,,,,, now that you mention it, seems like I remember there being one there years ago when I pulled the dash, can’t remember what I did yesterday though, thanks man, I’ll check it out in the morning,,,,, if I can remember!

Are you sure this is not static electricity biting you?

I have to agree with kiwigtx and Stanton. I'm no expert but if it's a constant tingle, I wouldn't think it would be from a DC power source??? Are you using any AC devices while doing this such as a trouble light or battery charger, anything? If you can feel it, I'm guessing you could measure it with a volt/ohm meter.

Don’t know for sure,,,,, but don’t think so, it’s very humid here in Oklahoma 50% right now and static, at least in my experience, usually occurs in low humidity conditions, having said that, I’m not ruling anything out! Got a reply that said there should be a ground from steering column to dash to body. I don’t think I put one on when reinstalling the dash assy. Thanks Kiwi for the reply, it’s so cool that people will take the time to come to the aid of another enthusiast!

No external sources are connected. I would think the only way to to get shocked would be with a much higher voltage such as the coil maybe. Not happy where I had to mount the coil, its a 440 and I mounted it perpendicular to the block using the middle valley pan bolt which put the ht very close to the intake manifold, sounds like I’m going to be very busy! Retired, so it’s not like I’ve got anything better to do! Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond, I’ll look at all the options my FBBO friends mention!

If you didn't ground the column then nothing should work.

That is baloney. Factory grounded it to make sure it had a good reliable and constant ground. Remember they had to,warranty these cars for 5 years. It is trying to find a ground somewhere else.

Many cars are assembled without the ground wire to the column and things do work. But it’s not right.

It’s not static electricity at 50% humidity, myth busted right there.

A wise man once told me”Never underestimate the power of a bad ground”,
So That’s where I’ll start! Thanks peeps!
