Some changes for LemonWedge

Here’s the slip, Tex. The incremental s do look pretty jacked up. I won’t really know until we get it fixed. But dammit, I’ve got a slip that says 10.85..... Let’s not piss in my corn flakes just yet. Hahah

not complaining . My first 10.99 was @ 120.66 .
It actually reminded me of watching Stock/Super Stock et's .
Well done - apart from the diff .

Or for about a grand more I can fix this end of the car once and for all with a D60. So I’ve decided I’ll be contacting Cass (Dr Diff) on Monday to order a Strange S60. This will be both the best option, and since they’re built to suit, it’ll be the quickest option as well.
.

Your making the right decision on the D60

Dana 60s for those who recognize them can add some "attitude" to your ride too!
Here's a pic from the viewing angle the Ford and GM riff-raff usually get:poke:

Got the 8-3/4” out and apart tonight. It’s ugly, but at first inspection it looks like my 742 case, spool, and caps have survived. This is nice because it means I can buy some new bearings and throw my 4.10’s back in it and possibly make a little $$$ back on this deal.
My welds showed very little penetration. Thinking back, my chart said I should have been into .035 wire. I used .030 and was on the edge of where the chart went with the .030. I probably would have been ok if I would have pre-heated the area with a torch. Hindsite.
Onward and Upward to D60 territory. One of the Mopar racers at Pacific owns and runs a performance shop. He approached me and offered to build a D60 to my specs for what seems like about cost. I was going to go to Cass for an S60, but this is saving me some cash and I’ll have local support. Huge shout out to Dan Herrmann at Herrmann Motorsports!!!

....and LemonWedge is Dana-fied. Haven’t fitted yet, but it would seem there’s no question we’re going to have to shorten the driveshaft.

Strange had THE best deal on a chromoly steel driveshaft! By FAR.
You are probably aware of this, but there is a axle tube brace kit for that rear end cover.
That cover just barely fit with the factory fuel tank taking suspension travel into account.
I got that cover because:
It looks awesome
It adds strength to the whole diff and assembly
It has "cap braces" built in that screw down to add support.
Multiple fill/drain plugs with a magnetic tip.
It looks awesome :poke::D
Everything from rear pinion caps, driveshaft, to slip yoke are all Strange chromoly steel on my Roadrunner.

Now we’re talking......

You’ll be fine now LW. That sweet GTX needed a Dana tucked under the back anyways, wesea
Yes, 4.56’s on a 35-spline spool.
After years of working with the 8-3/4, this thing is massive. Getting it up and on the springs by myself took some patience and ingenuity.

Yes they are pretty heavy for one fellow. I built a bracket that I use with the floor jack, makes things way easier. LW that Dana is an upgrade that you will never regret. Looking forward to your next outing.

sorry to read about the carnage 1st time back

loving the dana

good luck next time out
weight where you need it too

We shaved about 100 lbs off of the big sled. Exhaust system, front wheel / tire package, narrowed rear & fuel cell add up to about 120 lbs. New spring buckets & bigger rear tires add back about 20 lbs. I still have future plans to lose the power steering (30 lbs) and shave some weight at the front bumper brackets. It’d be cool to be under 3700 in the beams with an all steel and real glass B-Body. Maybe someday a fiberglass hood???

Here is before and after pixs of my 66 Coronet bumper brackets. They weighed hardly anything after I cut them down...but...they were only holding up fiberglass bumpers...would be too flimsy for stock steel bumpers.

Got everything fitted today despite the fact that it was one of those days where nothing went right in the garage. I think I’m starting to get a little tired of this project.
Anyway, the driveline needs to be shortened by about an inch, and we missed on the pinion angle by a bunch. That’s okay though, I’ve felt the rear end could stand to be a touch lower, so I’ve ordered some 4* shims.
Next weekend is a double header, Race #’s 1&2 of the season. I feel like it’s going to be a late Friday night thrash. I’ll have to beg and plead my local driveline shop to do a rush job. Wish me luck.

Hard to tell how loud something is on a video, but here is a taste...

Holy ****, that sounds badass! I just love the way the revs rise and fall so quickly, so little inertia. The stance looks perfect too, good work.

Dropped the driveline off with the good guys at Drivelines NW today. They’re backlog is currently 2-1/2 weeks, but they agreed to get it back to me no later than Thursday .
The brake lines fit, but don’t follow the housing at all. I’ll bend up some new lines when I have time, for now what works will have to work. Was actually able to squeeze the meats into the wheel wells without dropping the suspension, that was nice. Weather looks good for this weekend... looking forward to the fruits of my winters labor!!!
