Hi Everyone, I just saw set of speedmaster heads for around $1050 ( black friday) has anyone used these heads? Good or bad? + can I use stock exhaust, rockers, head bolts etc. Any information very appreciated. Thanks again . Happy Thanksgiving Day to All.

No personal experience, but have never heard much good. My buddy just sent some pics of some he got, and I looked at the valves and said WTF?

Thanks again. I guess like the Lottery system. At some point, someone gets a good set of there heads. (Odds 1- 3,000)?

What heck.... how could they possible sell at that price... that's to good to be true
Yeah.. thing is, at that price if you need to change springs or valves it's still not bad for intake/head castings.. and for something that is just a street/driver without a aggressive/big cam it would probably be fine.

The speedmasters are a copy of Eddie Victor's, and as such CANT use stock rockers, probably not exhaust manifolds and maybe not standard headers.
IF you decide you want a pair, the package deal is the ONLY way to go, cause it includes the offset rockers you HAVE TO HAVE., and an intake that you know matches.

(and I got a similar package for a bbc a few years ago on black friday, for just under $900. If I didn't already have more good heads than I need, I'd jump on that deal like a duck on a junebug!)

I would avoid speedmaster, especially if you are looking to bolt something on. They have a terrible reputation. The valves can be very, very soft and show wear after little use, u can get lucky..plenty of guys run them. I would buy them bare, w new valves and go through them, if I were to try. Why they copied the victors instead of the rpms is still a mystery to me. I would also pass on speedmaster rockers.

I think I might turn down the o.d. of either the intakes 9r the exhaust, depending on where the seats are......
Edit: probably turn the intakes (2.19?) and romance the seats and throats.

The valves in the heads in post #5 are the incorrect pieces for those heads.

As also seen here:

Some Pro Comp "Victor" stuff.....

As has been mentioned, not a good head choice for milder applications where stock intake/exhaust manifolds are a possibility.

Thank you Dwayne, I'm going to send that post to my other friend, who was going to put together the engine for "friend A".
My first thought was the exh valves were too big. Good to hear it's both.

Obviously the diameters are wrong, but I’d be very surprised if the lengths weren’t also too long.
I’d say the fact that the diameters are wrong is enough proof that they need a trip to the machine shop before installation.

If someone were inclined to try one of these top end kits, I’d call and have them tell you what diameter and length the valves are that come in the heads.
Should be:
Intake- 2.20/2.19 x 5.350
Exhaust- 1.81 x 5.375

Lengths should be within .010-.020”.

The ones with the 1.88/2.25 valves will likely have valves about .250” longer……..which are just flat out wrong for those heads.

For a relatively short period of time(seems like 2-3 years maybe?), SM actually did sell the RPM style head.
Same casting as the Sidewinder/ProMaxx/Toth/PW head.
I bought several bare sets when they had them.
I have no idea why they stopped selling them.

Man! I guess there no money or time to save hear. Btwn saving$ , then bringing to machine shop$$$. I think I'll have my 452s done. I have extra newer valves, springs, rockers . Valve job $400. Plus I glad 33 IMP stating you can't use stock exhaust, rockers etc. End of the day no money saved for me anyway. Thanks again

Yes, from meeting mopar people in my area. I got connected to a great guy named Dave 80yrs. Old. He worked at a few now defunct machine shops. He has built a machine shop in his barn. We does all different engines & heads. He just finished my 383 short block. 30 over bore/hone. Freeze plugs, cam bearings , turn crank 10/10. Sleve in 1 cylinder. Recon rods w/ arp & sonic clean block and reassembled $1,500
