Storage shed expense

We just bought a 10x16 high side gambrel roof shed as my daughter thought my good 12x20 shed would make a nice paint booth. How can I say no?

Good thing about the gambrel sheds is you can build high shelves at both ends for extra storage!

Taxes suck regardless. If it’s on blocks or something other than a slab it’s not considered permanent and should be less.. it is here but not the same everywhere!

I have a 8 x 40 x 10 high storage container.
Very secure, and when I don't need it. I can sell it. And not lose 1 cent.

I really like how secure & strong these are, but they're not attractive, especially if it's used one.

When I lived in OH, OH was famous for 11 foot and change or 12 foot and change overpasses.

Shortly after I left the feds started fining them for not meeting "national emergency" standards, and they started digging out the underpass or raising the bridge, whatever was cheaper at a given location.

Yes, they raised 2 over passes by me. One was right by a u haul rental. People would rent a truck, and shred the top a 1/4 mile away. I was always amazed at the amount of damage, with the trucks still at a relatively slow speed.

I looked at one like this yesterday. For the price, i thought it should of had better roof framing, and a place for a pad lock. Nice looking though.

This one does have a really good roof and well built. I bought one 17 years ago from same company and it’s dry as a bone and held up really well. Every company is different as we know. I’ve looked at sone at Home Depot and I can see the roof structure is quite a bit different. Not nearly as sturdy! Good luck with your search. I’m sure you’ll find a good one!

I forgot to mention when I ordered mine I upgraded to a metal roof so I wouldn't have shingle issues later on.

This one does have a really good roof and well built. I bought one 17 years ago from same company and it’s dry as a bone and held up really well. Every company is different as we know. I’ve looked at sone at Home Depot and I can see the roof structure is quite a bit different. Not nearly as sturdy! Good luck with your search. I’m sure you’ll find a good one!

I added some storage to mine. We gutted out a former dental lab and I got some really nice cabinets for free. Also a pretty long counter top I made into a work bench. edit: I also added the air line stuff you buy from Northern Tool only one outlet in the shed. Don't really do a bunch of stuff out there. But its there if I need it. Still need to insulate it. Was thinking about a dual AC/Heater for the shed. But low on the priority list for now. Once I do that I may move a bed out there. lol

& no permit needed under 120sgft, footprint

But;
I wish I would have bought or built one & gone bigger
twice the size
just misc. stuff stored in it
takeoff parts from my car or trucks etc.
tires, tailgate off the F350, scaffolding, ladders, shovels
some construction tool, left over paint cans
anything I don't want in the garage

it's too small too, 20'x20' small 2 car

I'm going to someday finish my back shop
when my 85 y/o dad finally quits RV-ing
(I thought he'd be done 10 years ago)
turn the back carport into a shop & have a shitload of racks,
shelves & storage, even a lift & a pit

I need to build to a shop. Looked at prices last year, they were doable for a “kit” and the size was 30x30, about 7-10k depending on whom you bought from and any “accessories”.

Today, they are 12-18k and I was quoted 20k from a company in Commiefornia. So I looked at carports. They too have gone up considerably. I can get a 30x30x8 carport for around 9-12k. My thoughts are leaning towards the carport and building a cripple wall for the legs to sit on and then I can my 12ft height to get my truck inside. But then ya gotta add the cost of the wood. I need to do this now as out 2 car garage is full from our other house that was 2 story and 2700sqft and 3 car garage. But the cost of all this is prohibitively expensive now. So I will have to wait.

I had been saving for a Versatube carport.. I went online to order it in February and it was 1K more?? now its almost doubled in price... I was too late..

I had my 30w x 26d carport built by Carolina Carport.

Upgraded to 8' sides, side walls and gable end walls, close vertical spacing, "vertical" roof seams, and "heavy gauge" roof and gable walls.
(basically 120 MPH wind rated with all 140 MPH upgrades but without the 140 rating)

Then I built the rest of the end wall in the back and installed 2 roll up doors and the small wall sections in the front wall for much less than having them do it. I got 9' wide doors and am super happy with the extra opening width to accommodate turning while entering or carrying stuff in while a car is in both sides. I can even get my 42" rider in beside a car pulled up about 2 feet from the door.

My only regret is not having a slab poured.

I'm still dealing with that. Today I laid 9 16" pavers after laying 9 last weekend to park that mower on.
First pavers I've laid since the year after it was built when I laid about 40 to put my tool boxes on.

They did our 20x21 carport with 2 enclosed sides for $2500 4 years ago. How prices have changed!

i built mine from metal studs and metal siding 8' tall in front to 6' in back about 8' deep and 48' long with four doors 3800.00 for everything 2 years ago probbly add a grand to that now. was alot of work but turned out well for the money, and a hell of alot of cold storage.

Gonna be doing this for awhile.. Lost of projects now are stalled or you pay the Inflation.. My son is a Carpenter and they are having a hard time getting Materials EVEN paying the Inflated costs.. He just grabbed the last 25lb container of screws he needed for a project for $93... They were only $50 some dollar a few months ago. The owner of the Hardware store told him it was the last ones he had with no timeline of when they will be getting anymore as he has had them on order for a month...

I purchased a new Olympia steel Garage delivered was 32x 40x 12 walls doors not included because you can buy them locally cheaper it was $16,700 that was in January and it came in April but they said that price was going up? I have not started yet because I'm building my cabin.
