Hey guys,

Just wondering who has experience with balanced rotating assembly kits from 440 Source and Eagle.... the good, the bad, the ugly.

Also, I have been looking around forums for any experience with trick flow aluminum heads. There was a lot of talk leading up to them becoming avail.... anybody running them??

Cheers

Jason

I figured as much.... What would be your choice mmissile??

Some/most of the kits from 440source are good quality, not cheap crap
{like some will say, usually some hearsay from someone that
knew someone BS, not 1st hand experiances}
The Platinum Series "Made in the USA" stuff, are nice pieces
{I haven't purchased from them since 2007-ish, I can't speak to recently}
has done well in a few of my milder street/strip builds 700+hp
I've even gone mid 8's over 150 mph on couple of them with N20,
it's still running just fine, the guy I sold that car too just freshened it up...
It's going on 14 years now, street & track driven...

I've never had any parts failures on any of the stuff I've purchased,
except their Stealth heads
{Stealths org. crap & bad parts, chamber design, long story & they made it good},

But I have the stuff thoroughly checked/measured,
by me & someone that knows their ****, not some flyby night corner parts store machinist...

The rods, pistons, pins, rings, cranks, bearings, machine work,
all checked out just fine, well within all spec.'s,
I didn't buy the entry priced stuff,
I bought Platinum Series, I was kind of selective...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

IMO there are far more pricey parts out there or no better quality too
some great stuff some not so great too...
I've seen some stuff from so called hi dollar suppliers,
that were not better quality & almost 2 times the price...
Depends on what your doing with it, how much of a budget you have
if you can check the parts for proper clearances weights sizes etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I'm building an all out race car going 180+ in the 7's or faster
I'd chose a few different suppliers, spend a few more $$$'s,
but for most the builds I see here, they have a good selection of
affordable decent priced/really good quality parts...

IIRC they changed ownership/management about {IIRC} 10-12 years ago,
the issues they "allegedly" used to have, for the most part all have been
resolved/corrected changed etc.

I wouldn't think twice about using 440source again
"on another street/strip engine build"

------------------------------------------------------------

Opinions vary vastly just make sure whomever's parts you use,
that you have a good machinist that knows what he's/she's doing,
not just some local yokel, wet behind the ears machinist...

IMO that's most important when spending money on a performance build...

Some people just throw $$$ at it because someone else did it that way,
some spend a bunch more than need be too, just spend it wisely, not wastefully...

Good luck what ever you decide

Lots of opinions out there. I use to build/machine engines for a living. Would I put source parts in something I plan to make 1000 hp with? Probably not. Are they fine for your smogger 400 block you want to make a stroker? Yes. Like anything careful measuring and Attention to detail is what really matters. People pull a bunch of new parts out of boxes and screw them together and when the motor goes boom it must be junk parts. (All parts no matter what brand and where from need to be checked, scrutinized, and corrected). Last engine I built "for myself" is a 511 source kit 400 block. First time to the track, 10.95 through mufflers, driving to the track, and weighing about 4g with me in it. Also it was on pump gas with a six pack (them things don't work) at least that's what I'm told..?! So yes, a source kit will work fine for the proper application.

My dad has a 'Source kit, 505 for his 440 and traction is a HUGE problem in his E body.

I can remember buying Kellogg Cranks in the mid 70's for Hemi's. Back then you paid 2500.00 each for these cranks. In recent history I purchased a Eagle crank and rods with Diamond pistons for a 472 Stroker Hemi. My machinist has purchased many of the Eagle parts and has had very good luck. In the modern technology driven world we can say for sure if you produce bad parts the word travels very quickly. Gone are the days of making bad product and hiding from the buyer! I think your going to be very happy with this brand. Another point since I have purchased many parts from Mancini racing, i know they would not carry the product if it was crap!

69 GTX has a 440 with Trick Flow heads. It has a Six Barrel and is making close to 600hp if I recall. Jim LeRoy built the engine.
There is a link to it somewhere, hopefully 69 GTX will pop in and post it.

Fantastic look forward to hearing the details. Cheers

I am using their heads on my .30 over 383 in my '66 Plymouth Satellite. Installed roller rockers, push rods and stock 440 Source valves. Mild Hughes cam. Out of the box the heads were really cleaned of excess flashing from milling and I measured all clearances, bolted them on and away I went. Very nice results out of a mild build as I do not run it at the track but use it for cruising etc. Yes you get what you pay for but when on a budget their heads are a very good alternative. But as mentioned either have them checked professionally or if you have the skills then do it yourself. I am very satisfied myself...JMHO...cr8crshr/Tuck:usflag::usflag::usflag:

To clarify, you are using Trickflow Heads, or 440 Source??

I'm using the 440 Source Aluminum Heads on the 67 GTX I purchased from 67 Satellite
I went through the entire engine with my "Bud"

PS: 440 Source is 42 miles from my house

Ski...If you are living in the High Desert in Reno then you are correct. They moved a while back to Carson City NV to get out of doing business in Commiefornia. Here's the address...cr8crshr/Tuck:usflag::usflag::usflag:

I can tell you first hand if you go Eagle pay attention to the rear main seal knurl on the crank.had a 4.15 stroker .The knurl on the crank was cut to deep and oil gets underneath the seal and leaks. seams I'm not the only one that has had this problem.
