Super-bee_ski's 1963 Dodge "Max Wedge" clone resto "Round-2"

I like Your Coro....68 is my most favored year...i had a copper 68 post coupe' 440(trim) w, bench, 318 ...of the 3 B's i had, the 68 was my choice, tho i loved all 3.

Thanks tallhair...
Thanks Bladecutter...

Thanks guys and gals...

The hood Scoop is of course from the Tyn Man out of Michigan.
I found him back in 2008 (When I first dropped the car off at Phoenix Autobody)
Anyway, it is coming...
Paint soon!

I'm trying to find out: what held this style "Hood Scoop" up in the middle?
Was it as someone suggested, a simple #10 machine screw?
The Hood came with everything but the other shop lost everything.. (Phoenix Autobody)

Thanks gang....
Hoping to start painting 2nd week in April

My #1 color (at this time) is: Black exterior with a Red interior.

The new paints in Kalifornia are all "Water-based" with solvent base for the clear coat.
I'm running to Nellis AFB this week for business.
I'm going to price the Black exterior BASE PAINT (Solvent) and see about purchasing it instead of the water base.

Thanks gang....

Black with a red interior is an awesome choice - one of my all time favorite color combos! The only problem with black is after you get finished washing your car, you have to start over because it is already dirty! A clean black car looks great, but it sure as heck doesn't stay clean for long!!!

Either way, I think it's a great choice!

Haven't checked in for a while, Damn that thing is lookin good! I like the color combo your going with and that scoop just sets it off, nice work.

hsorman: Yes that is a drawback with the Black color!
But I think it might look good Black...
I am still deciding.
I have to act quickly, we will be going to paint here in the next week or so.

747mopar: Thanks. It has been a difficult road. I think I need a 63 donor car. Phoenix Autobody LOST some of my parts!

ma mopar nutz: Thank you! It will be neat to see a car like this "back on the road" Too many were thrown away/crushed.

63 dodge resto.

Looking fine. I do have a soft spot for 63s. I did a 63 330 dodge original stage 2 car in the late 70s and there just wasn't anything available for these cars then. Keep up the great work. It just sucks to trust your car and cash to less than honorable people, after the fact. Best of wishes.

Thank you Dave.
Thanks for the support!

PS: Perhaps sometime you can share some pics of your Max Wedge and your racing days?
And maybe some more pics of Norm Letour's racing car, your "Stormin Norm" Dodge race car?

Ski..ster, wussup? Get Your soup yet? The Holiday for black is that You can paint the car in pieces if You want....black out of the same can will butt match all day long...just remember to keep your air pressure, reduction and distance from surface while shooting roughly the same matrix and You won't have any match trubbles. Come over to ECS's 4 door cuda thread & check in sometime. doesn't matter if it makes sense or not, the work is as good as it gets and i am in reverence of it. Slammed, Buhlaack with mini-lites....would make a ***** looking sedan, then go out & hunt down a porsche' pan america (their 4 door spt) & chase that *** down. Luck with Your Polara. Cure time.....cure time.....did i say cure time? There are no substitutes worthy of cure time. Something else to keep in mind as things build up with primer & paint. tolerances close up....things like pinch welds and drip rails that get mouldings attached, stuff like that, any where something has to clip on, it's best to keep the material shaved down in those areas...often people ignore areas like this since they're not part of the final visual. Same for edges, especially doors....i actually 80 grit the door edges just before rolling in booth....the paint will seal that small cross section of bare metal just fine. I've had three jobs in past where this wasn't done and the final 5 mil buildup of paint was just enuf.....open the door and the edges contact eachother & Riiippp goes the fresh paint. One more....Your masking tape....don't lay the rolls on their sides on dirty surfaces and when setting down, set flat gently...if you toss them it bends the edges...laying tape in dirt gives you rough unclean tape edges....this rule for plastik fine line tapes should be Bible....keep the tape edges clean. Give a holler Boss

Thanks for the tips Bladecutter!
Yup nothing beats experience!
And mistakes can be costly.

So, what do you think about Cure Time? LOL
Yes, cure time, be patient!
No hurries, no rush!

Stay tuned!

Dat's it Boss......Zen & Prayer are a constant in my push to the other side......> also. Shoot Man, You're not so far away, You should come out and see the "Ponchos" Were doing the 62 in Black...most likely delstar, single stage. I think were going to have the roof in color within a couple weeks....doing what i just last posted about...paint in pieces. the rear clip is next.....Ski, never let anyone try to convince You that there is anything easy in this sandbox....there is only easIER or hardER....it's all a time eater.....even bad work. But it can be quite fulfilling.....

It's gonna look great Black over Red.

What other colors are you / were you considering?

Red / Red, White / Red?

Red interior sounds awesome even with a Red or White car

tallhair,
In 2008 when it first went to a Body Shop (CROOKS) it was going to be White Exterior and Red interior
Then while working in Baldwin Park with Mr. Dale Reed, engine builder for Bob Mosher's Cars I spotted a 63 Polara that Bob Mosher had done and Dale Reed had done the Max Wedge engine.
It was Black exterior with the Red A100 seats and red interior.

It looked and sounded so darn cool!
That is what "turned-me"

So, it is almost assuredly going Black exterior with a Red interior.
It was originally a crème beige exterior.

-BUT: They did make a great maroon that year too...

Hawk

That's precisely the reason I sold my 63 Polara!

I have that Stainless strip that runs down the side too!

Latest on the 1963 Dodge Polara "Max Wedge" clone:

I found a 1963 Dodge 330 4-door (Gold) in Stockton CA.
$700
Allegedly, no rust.
318 poly car, AC and push-button, All there.
I told the guy I'll drive the 6 hours this upcoming Friday 3 April 2015.
I e-mailed him and said
He finally told me he doesn't "do payments". It is evident he does NOT fully read his e-mails.
Then I told him I'll pay $800

Now 2 weeks later I'm still awaiting his reply.
To be continued....
