This is my first time looking at your post, WOW that looks great. You shouldn't ever have to second guess anything down the road, looks like your covering it all the first time around. Great job

It lives

IT LIVES!!. After a few weeks of fitting out things in the engine bay , I finally got the new engine fired up yesterday. This was after I pushed it into the lower bay and installed the fuel tank and connections. Also installed the aluminized exhaust system with Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. I was surprised how well it fit considering I bought the pipes pre bent by a guy out in Ohio. Engine Started up as as soon as fuel reached the carb. Ran it at about 2000 rpm for 30 mins with Brad Penn break in 30wt oil. Ran very well, no leaks, no overheating, no weird engine noises. I was relieved to say the least. Changed the oil and filter and checked the used oil for particulates. Found none. The only issue I have now is that it wont idle under about 1400. I'm quite sure that the idle circuit is not functioning properly. This is a Carter AVS 4426s I bought about 5 years ago rebuilt ,that just sat around. I'm probably lucky thats the only issue I have with it. I'm gonna pull it today and dig into it to see whats going on. I've rebuilt many carbs over the years, but mostly Holleys. Anyone have any advise or hints on these AVS's. Also this is a stock 383 4spd with the only upgrade of camshaft ( XE274 Comp Cams ) . Any advise, on perhaps jetting carb up some to help with bigger cam ? Oh . Almost forgot. Put on the Red Line tires and poverty caps. What do ya think.

My advise is to store the carter and buy a new holley avenger. Never seen a rebuilt carb that ran as well as new. Had many rebuilt, tinkered with them for long periods of time. Could have saved all that time just bolting on a new one and firing it up. Good luck :)

BTW great build. Been fun to watch.

Congrats on the start up Mitch! won't be long now, let me know when you hit the street with it, hopefully the snow will hold off and you can put a few miles on it soon.

I'm not a steelie guy, I like my chrome Day Two look, but gawd that runner is beautiful!:icon_thumright:

wow she is looking very good ,coming along very well ,thanks for sharing your build ,keep on posting your updates,:headbang: :headbang:

It's a numbers thing. If it wasn't a numbers car I would have Cragar SS wheels on it. Just like the one I had back in the day.

that's what I have on mine. you could put the steelies on for the shows and the Cragars for everyday....

Awesome!!! Looks great and I’m sure it sounds great as well. I’ll be there one of these days…

I'm not much for factory correct restorations but that car is beautiful, you are doing one hell of a job.
