I’ve installed Trickflow 240 heads with Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers.
I think the rockers are just touching my valve covers because there’s a some tapping noise. I’ve been told these rockers shouldn’t make noise so I suspect the rockers might be touching the rockers.
Does anyone have any suggestions for nice valve covers for these heads that will use the PVC valve and breather cap used on a 440 six pack air cleaner base plate?

Do you have a roller cam and lifters installed as well? If so, those tend to be a little noisy compared to flat tappet.

I would check the covers inside for witness marks,, and I would make sure it's not a valve adjustment issue/ noise.
I've used M/Ts and chrome direct connection covers on 240s , worked well. With pcv provisions. The M/Ts needed light clearancing for the end pedestals

I have an old set of Direct Connection chrome covers that were hammered inside years ago for for crane adjustable rockers.

I am using roller hydraulic lifters as well. That could account for the noise. It’s not loud tapping but I didn’t expect any noise given they are hydraulic.

I’m really not looking for a set of covers with aftermarket written all over it if I have a choice.

Of course I will check lash and evidence once I look inside the covers.

Just wanted to know if anyone ran across this situation using the 1.6 rockers especially.

On a side note, I went from a 284/484 cam to the 240 Trickflow heads with a .560 lift Hughes cam.

I think I have a lean situation and I plan to increase the jets. Any advice at what steps you would increase jet size?

Thanks for the responses.

Thanks, I didn't catch that.
But Remcharger covered what I was gonna recommend. Look inside for contact marks. If you find some, die grind a little clearance in the cover (should be OK with cast covers, or get some fabbed covers that use tubes for the hold down bolts. They should have more rocker clearance.

It looks like you have manifolds, which I believe won't work with these

I still find it hard to believe rockers hitting the covers is your issue. Doesn't make sense.
Agree. Until you pull the covers off and see something rubbing, I'd look for your noise in other places.
Those are the Harland sharps specifically built for TF heads, right?

Yes these are the rockers for the TF heads.

The noise is like the sound of lifters not quite pumped or lashed right. Like a light typewriter.

I wasn’t expecting any noise but I don’t know having not ever used this valve train before.

I put my hand on the valve covers and rev the motor. Not a noticeable hint of hitting metal but the noise is slight. Not a loud racket.

Well, have you ever checked preload on hydraulic rollers before?

Some hydraulic roller cams (and some hyd flat tappets too) have aggressive valve timing events, and are kinda noisy as a result. Similar to a solid lifter tick, just a little more subdued.
The noise might be a function of the cam selected.

Maybe rockers aren't shimmed properly

That is the noise you are describing. Not a hard rap but a slight ticking sound.

I’m not satisfied with the cover gaskets. Small leaks. I was waiting to change the gaskets until I try larger jets.

I wanted to get some feedback about the noise. The builder said that there shouldn’t be any noise so that was my concern.

He is not however much of a mopar guy
