Trying To Quit Smoking "Cold Turkey"

Yeah man! That's the hardest part! You ARE now a NON-SMOKER!!

After several real tries to quit over the years, one lasting about 6 months, I quit about 4 years ago after 35 years or more of smoking. I used the patches and really think they did help. I'm not into needless suffering so I figured anything that would help would be fine.

Here's a thought.....

Made it another day. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it!!!

Calculate how much money you spend on cigerattes in a year, based on your current usage.

Go spend that amount of money, (perferably on something for your car).

WA----LAAAAA........ No more money for smokes.... !!!!Whenthe erge to light one up hits... go look at what you bought....

I sure hope you are right!!
You are as long as you don't light up...I know it sounds over-simplified but, just don't smoke anymore. Consider yourself a non-smoker...BE a non-smoker. Refuse to rely on it. Be proud of yourself when you make it another day and brag about it. It will help change your way of thinking, which is what will ultimately lead to success.

I quit 03/29/07 at 9:59 pm and have never looked back after smoking for 31 years. It will be 4 years tomorrow. I feel better and gained some weight which is a small price to pay.

I have a deck of cards near the coffee table and played solitaire when I got the urge for a smoke. Wore out two decks. Also, if it got bad I would microwave a bag of popcorn and ate the whole thing in about 5 minutes. Find things taht work for you and keep doning them.

Remember one smoke will not keep you from quitting but don't do it.

It'll be 9 years for me this July. I just put them down too and refused to light another. I am a stubborn bastard though, I refused to give into my cravings. The worst of it was over for me about two weeks in and I have never looked back.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Dennis

Is it still as difficult as the early days??? This is a bitch!! BUT I am gonna make it.

I must admit I don't smoke, but I'm a lifetime asthmatic and have been around it my whole life because my dad is a 50 yr smoker - up until 2 yrs ago. You can do anything you set your mind to - I'm rooting for ya! My father just quit smoking 2 yrs ago cold turkey for the 8th time after 50 yrs of smoking - this time it's for good because he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. His trick this time was he reluctantly gave up coffee too because for him the two go hand in hand. Now he just focusses on hunting and fishing more and making it to the gym. My mother in-law just died from lung cancer Dec, 26th, 2010. I saw her die and gasp her last breath after being over at her house for a week straight seeing her labored raspy breathing. That was the most dramatic thing I've ever witnessed. She likely got cancer from 2nd-hand smoke of her husband who smoked like a chimney - she never smoked at all in her life, but my wife tells me stories of driving in the car with her dad and he would be smoking away with all of the windows up. So remember you're not only helping yourself, but also your loved ones too, who need their own health and also would hate to see you go too early!

You can do it!

Every time you really want one, just go outside, get in your Mopar and do a burnout. Just joking - had to throw the car in there somehow.

Decided on Sat. nite the 12th of this month that I have had enough. About 45 years of smoking and 3 good friends dying of lung cancer in the last 5 months, all of which were younger than me. I put 'em down. No pills, No gum, No patches. I just hope I can do it. So far it has been tough but I believe I can make it this time.

I'll pray for you brother. You've made a wise decision and you can do it. MMG

Oh yea you will make her.I'm using the patch so I don't get the craving, and I chew alot of gum.I've noticed that my sense of smell has increased and that is a good thing.Next the lungs. So keep at her there Jack. There is only one winner here and that is you.

Keep up the good work.Just keep in mind. It's a dirty disgusting habit that just costs you money. At $10.00 a pack and killing your lungs, teeth, etc.

My mother also has lung disease from smoking for 50+ years. She's on oxygen most of the day and can't walk more that 30 ft or so without taking a sit-down rest. Very sad. As I mentioned above, she quit, but it was too late. Don't do that to yourself. Stay strong. Just convince yourself you have no choice and it will be easier.

You will never regret it, I was a nicotineslave myself, smoked 30 every day and a half box of snuff daily, I guess thats similar to yours chewing tobacco, I quit 1987 and thats one of the best thing I have done in my life, its tuff somedays but you can make it.

Good continued lick and keep saying that over and over during each withdrawing reaction the body gives. Even if ya gotta scream out loud, "I ain't no wimp!". "I aint gonna do it!" Been there done that.

I havent bought a pack of cigarettes since Jan 1st but every few days i buy a mini cigar to kill the cravings
I feel your pain -not a easy thing to do.
