Trying To Quit Smoking "Cold Turkey"

Smiley1.gif

AWESOME!!

I was told at some point it was a rule of threes.
First 3 days, 3 weeks 3 months and 3 years. Most guys I talked to said if you make it to the 3 months point it is no longer physical or chemical. Its all mental at that point. Once at the 3 year point it is the minimal relapse point.

I am young by you old farts standards but 20 years of 2 packs a day is the point I quit. I used the patch only during the day. Gained weight and did the sunflower seeds but I drive 30k miles a year for work so imagine that. once you want it its easy.

Remember it only takes one puff to set you back. There is no such thing as recreational smoking. The only thing that addicted me in my life.
4 years not one and I hang around with smokers every day.

I once had quit for almost 6 months and then went back - don't let your guard down just yet. Stay away from things that make it tempting - like drinking. That was always my downfall I think. Also never give into the "just one for old times sake" temptation.
I smoked a pack a day for over 35 years and I'm now about 4 years free and don't miss it a bit.
Congratulations on hitting the 4 month mark!

Great advise.....

Thats a great rule to go by.... I quit cold turkey in 83, never touched another cig and after 3 years I still concidered myself as an "X-smoker" rather then a non smoker.
Just think..... pull this off and you'll have several more years to enjoy your mopar..... hang in there buddy...!

i still remember the day i quite. may 8th 1994, ran out of smokes at night woke up without any... never bought another pack and quit cold turkey...

you can do it, keep up the good work! congrats!

I sure hope so!!!
Don't say it that way...say damn right I am! I used to smoke cigars some and always did whenever I had a few beers but my sinus said no more. Got tired of not being able to breathe the next day. Haven't had one in over a year and I know I never will again! Congrats on the 4 months and I bet your wallet notices too!

A Nasty Filthy Habit

A tough one to crack smoking is. I quite cold turkey after getting the crap scared out of me by a Flight Surgeon while getting ready to retire in 2007. Quit that day. Smoked the last one I had on the way home. Never looked back either. It has now been 4 plus years. What did it for me was about 3 weeks after I had quit, a co-worker that smokes came into the office and right away I realized how it stunk. I then asked myself "is that how I smelled to others?" If so, just freaking terrible. Dude go rinse your mouth out or something was my thinking. Since that day I cannot stand the smell of tobacco smoke in any form. I can get quite vocal about it at times as I "HATE IT AND THE SMELL!!!" After a awhile you will see what I mean. It is said that former smokers are the worst when it comes to the habit and I guess that is right in my case. But like I said...it is a tough habit to kick but after 4 plus years now I enjoy everything in a better light. Even when I drink now I don't crave tobacco. Congrats and keep on keeping on. You will be better for it....:hello2:
