Waking up the beast

Already looking into the cage. My car twists like a pretzel when I leave. Hopefully stiffening up the car offsets the weight of the cage.

Looks like a washout for Saturday. But I may go to Island on Sunday . Sunny in the 50's with low humidity:)

The 6 point rollbar I run really helps stiffen the car. I believe the rollbar helps more then the frame connectors do. Ron

Guess I went too fast yesterday. I blew the G off my grill emblem. Last run was [email protected]

The motor sucked it in and spit it out. Good thing a Chevy wasn't in front of you.

Beautiful day at Island Dragway yesterday Air temp didn't get above 60. Humidity around 50%. For those of you keeping score, this is what I did.
Saturday afternoon, I took the distributor out and put lighter springs in. Adjusted the timing and put the car away. Drove to the track on Sunday morning and got the car ready. Left the "exhaust" on because I could. Put the air in my tires down to 19 lbs to start. First pass the car felt good off the line. When I got to the top end, it broke up a bit. Still a good pass (for me) Went [email protected] 1.59 60 ft.Best 60 ft. to date.I think because of the distributor. After the run, I went up on the jets. Started the car and it didn't like the changes at lower rpm. It revved ok after 3500. So I went back into the carbs and went down one size in the primaries only. I don't know if that was right, but it worked. Got it back together and it ran good. By this time it was a little warmer out. Checked the tires and aired them back down to 19. Made my second pass it it ran better this time, not breaking up. I [email protected] witha 1.59 60 ft. My 60 ft times were .030 better than anything previous with about the same e.t. So the final pass, I went down to 16.5 lbs. in the rear tires. Air temp went up a little more and full sun. The DA was about 800 at that time. Tires seemed to grab a bit more and went 1.58 60 ft. and [email protected]. Best e.t. and 60 ft. to date.

sounds like your getting a handle on the set-up...

great progress, keep it up

Geez bob you're sounding an awful lot like a race car driver.

Almost 40's, good job! Would've went 40's with open exhaust I bet. Great tuning.

Great car and work! Someone plz remind me again- at what time/ET do you have to use long wheel studs?

Great car and work! Someone plz remind me again- at what time/ET do you have to use long wheel studs?

the thread engagement on all wheel studs to the lug nut, or lug bolts to wheel hubs, must be equivalent to or greater than the diameter of the stud/bolt. length of the stud/bolt does NOT determine permissibility.
( a 7/16" stud must be thoroughly engaged through the threads in the hex portion of the lug a minimum of 7/16")

At 10.99 you need aftermarket axles.

11.49 & faster a Roll Bar, min. requirements or was at-least

Knock, knock, knockin on 11.49's door.

the beast is a very impressive running car, just think what a solid lifter cam would do to her!!

Thanks, plans are for a solid roller and a Victor manifold and maybe a 950 quick fuel over the winter.

You may already know, but you can just put in just a roll bar (8 or more point) till you run 10.99, then you have to have a full cage.
I put in a 10 point bar for now in mine. I added some bars that made it connect pretty much the full car for stiffness, shock tower to axle hump anyway, may add 2 more in rear trunk later. And bars can be added to make a full cage later, if needed. I'm sure we all agree a full cage is a good idea for any speed, on the strip. But if a car is also driven on the street some guys say that a full cage is actually kinda dangerous due to bare head banging on bars. Kinda why I just went with a bar since I may be on the street a little.

May as well put a full cage in it if I'm going to do anything. The car definitly needs to be stiffened.
