Looking forward to the report!
I’d bolt that on for the last outing and I bet you’d get your 10 second pass.I have an Indy single plane intake and an 950 hp holley
Lenny is no longer at Ultimate. I loved my Ultimate converter that Lenny built for me back in 18. I contacted Ultimate last winter about freshening. I asked about recent customer feedback and never heard anything back.or Lenny at ultimate Converters.
My Buddy was running the cross ram like yours on his 440 64. Best he ever got with it was about 11.5. He bolted on a single plane and went into the high 10’s. Nothing else done.I'm going to leave the converter in the car for now and try the single plane intake. If it picks up then I know the intake is holding me back. If not I will look closer at motor. I did not assemble engine maybe cam is off. I did a leak down before taking it to the strip this year and that was good. I will address converter issue this winter. I don't look foward to laying on my back to change converter again not a fun job for sure. I tried 2 different converters with the old motor. Ron's engine build was the inspiration for my build. But now my goal is to bracket race this car. If I was going to street drive it I would run it as. I got the racing bug now. Lol
I called Ultimate last week and left a message they never called back. I filled out spec sheet on their website also not a word.Lenny is no longer at Ultimate. sounds familiar to my experience. Lenny built me a terrific converter. A year of so later he sold the business but was staying on to teach the new guy the ropes. Then last winter I emailed Lenny directly and no reply, so I contacted the new fellow and did get a reply. When I asked for some references for recent converters there was no more communication.I called Ultimate last week and left a message they never called back. I have close to the same combo, engine 493, A&A factory crossram, 2 750 carbs, .620 roller, 4.30 gear, 8" ATI converter, 29.5x10.5 slicks calvert bars. Car weight with me and 145lbs ballast= 3660lbs. This is from this past weekend at Norwalk. As said probably converterI made it to the track Friday night it was the 3rd time this year. The car is a 64 Belvedere. It weighs 3724 with me and 8 gallons of fuel. The engine is a 505 440source kit 10.75 to 1 compression Solid roller cam .631 lift duration @50 int 264 ex270 lobe seperation 110. Indy EZ heads from Porter Racing Heads. Factory style crossram with 2 750 eddie carbs. I have tried 2 different convertors first stalled 4200 2nd stalled 5100. The rear is a Dana 60 with 4:10 gears, 29.5 X 9 bias slicks SS springs and truck shocks. The car runs good doesn't miss or lay over. The first time out car was ill handling. So scaled car got corner weights set. Rebuild front end and got an alignment. The 2nd trip a Aug 4. The car ran good and straight. I made 6 passes I tried different air pressure in slicks ,launch RPM & shift RPM (5800 & 6000). The 60fts were 1.58-1.56 ET' 11.03-11.09 & MPH 120-121.This was over 5 hours and weather got cooler. The 3rd trip I changed convertor. The first pass launch RPM was 3000 shift 5800 trap rpm 6200. 60ft 1.588 1/4 et11.132 120.22 mph. 2nd pass 2,500 launch shift 5800 60ft 1.579 1/4 et11.088 mph 120.84. 3rd pass changed timing from 36 to 34 degrees launch rpm 2200 shift 6000 60ft 1.576 1/4 et11.083 mph 121.10. I'm trying to get solidly into the 10's. Not sure what to try next. My local track is done for year September 30 so I have one more chance this year. Thanks Mike
About 20 less cubes, same weight this is without me in it. I'm also still thinking it's the converterI have close to the same combo, engine 493, A&A factory crossram, 2 750 carbs, .620 roller, 4.30 gear, 8" ATI converter, 29.5x10.5 slicks calvert bars. Wallace calculator says 16.67%. The rpm drop at shifts is 800-1000 rpmA step in the right direction.
What was the converter slip situation this time out?
The crossram is costing you at least 40+HP. Put the single plane indy intake on and borrow beg or steal a good 1050 Dominator and you will pick up probably 3 tenths. I have been there and done just that. Take my word for it. Or stick with the crossram and never go in the 10s with your current weight and gear. I went 3 tenths fasterI think that is the next step. Just to see. I want to make this crossram work.
I talked with PTC on Friday. I'm sending them my 9in converter. They are going look at it and see what they can do. I will leave the single 4bl on and try to get the best out of it.The crossram is costing you at least 40+HP. agree ^^^^^^^^^ only time out , before the rings were seated, my barracuda went 11.90`s at a 120mph , not hooking up at all with drag radials , and no front end lift at all....Those heads, cam, cubes, and weight in Wisconsin in September, I’d be looking for the reasons why it’s not trapping at 126 mph.
Can you try a big 4 bbl on a good single plane manifold?
I'd recommend a shorter tire like a 275/60 -10x28 radial at about 19 psi, dump the truck shocks. Technology has come a long ways since the 60s. Put some adjustable shocks all the way around. I think the rest of your combo is good but your 60 ft is half a tenth or more off. Good shocks and a shorter tire is a good place to start.I made it to the track Friday night it was the 3rd time this year. The car is a 64 Belvedere. It weighs 3724 with me and 8 gallons of fuel. When the budget allows it will get better shocks on all 4 cornersI'd recommend a shorter tire like a 275/60 -10x28 radial at about 19 psi, dump the truck shocks.
