What did you do to your Mopar today?

After removing the two rear most freeze plugs on the driver's side, I poked a finger in between the motor mount, and...

yup, that one's soft, as well.

I got to thinking...

It sure would have been nice if the factory had cast bosses with threaded holes near the plugs, so they could be pressed in...

Then I thought more...that as cast the only plug location that would lend its self to that would be...

yup, the one behind the motor mount...

So, I'm fabricating a "freeze plug pusher-inner".

You'll have to remove the motor mount, and support the engine, but it'll bolt in place of the mount and press in the plug.

90% done.

Should be better than pulling the engine.

Just pick these up today, now just need to wire them up and one step closer. Just h opeing my factory Speedo cable works on the mechanical gauge I bought if not have to figure out something.

I'll weld the "press" nut to the plate, so the bolt will push against it, and the body nut with the spinning captive washer will push the plug and be positively located to the bolt via the jam nut.

Now I have to build a support bar.

Engine hoist would normally work, but space in front of car is very limited- 6" to door.

The HF one is $80.

I'm thinking 42" 2x4 laying on each fender ledge (maybe even temporarily attached with 2 long bolts into the fender bolt holes.

Then a 52" 2x4 spanning the compartment, perhaps reinforced with the remainder of the angle iron.

It'd be nice to be able to actually lift the engine with the device, but maybe that's a bit much.
(although a scissor jack might integrate nicely...)

Locate a lifting/securing point (hopefully not limited to intake bolts, but they're always an option), and chain it.

Fabricating engine support bar and lift.

Told ya I might use a scissors jack.

I drilled holes in the base and screwed it to the 2x4.

2x4's are captive by hood hinges, and distribute weight over 4 fender bolts.

I think I'll be alright.

...oh, and it was 104* in the shade the other day!!!

installed new 5 point harness today now I can take it to the track

It's working...

...but...all the potential weak points I was concerned about showed themselves-

Slots in back plate allowed it to bend
Bolt was too short
Nut weld broke (of course I was out of welding gas, and didn't notice last time I welded)

Got longer bolt, and added stiffening washer...now just need gas.

...also I had to slot the bolt holes, and keep the assembly loose, to allow side to side centering adjustments.

Nothing on my car as usual .... but I did this for a customer's.

015 - Copy.jpg

Ackkk, no justice under the halogen bench light. Let's go outside instead ...

010 - Copy.jpg

It's Lollypop Red over polished aluminum logos and Black Pearl. Not much pearl in it but there's a ton of different colored metal flakes.

Well I brought the Charger to the place that did my seats last Wednesday so I could get the wiring for the stereo done. Well i pulled in the parking lot turned into a spot and poof, huge smoke cloud and no power steering. The high pressure host burst and sprayed power steering fluid all over the exhaust manifold. Thankfully the car didnt burn to the ground. I spent last night installing the high pressure hose I bought from rock auto and used bulk hose for the return. I also unboxed and checked out the radiator setup that showed up last night for my 65 Sport Fury. (Griffin CU-00038-LS).

So many projects, So little money. :)

Been pretty busy since getting trans tunnel repaired. Painted floor, installed carpet, seats, emergency break cables and exhaust. Finally got to here car with an exhaust. I was feeling as though I was getting closer to being able to put it on the road. Took for a ride through the neighborhood, pulled it in the garage and noticed a trail of water behind me. I checked it out, must of popped a soft plug. Go figure looks like the one behind motor mount. Looks like the motor is coming out! Oh well that's life.100_2608.jpg100_2052.jpg100_2428.jpg100_2617.jpg
