What did you do to your Mopar today?

Just finished waxing/detailing the roadrunner for Sunday's show. Holy crap, am I getting old. I felt like one of those sailors chipping barnacles off the Nimitz.....never gonna end.

Finished closing in the right tub, built a set of aluminum rails to mount my broken '66 grille on in order to make it stay in place at the broken ends so I could braze them back together. Worked out great, I left it on the rails while I cleaned and sanded, and painted and polished it. It's still a driver but at least it's clean and looks nice. Dug out the headlight case covers and started on them too.. also yesterday I sanded the left fender down on the inside and then repaired a rust spot on top back near the end. I also welded closed the antenna hole and the turn signal indicator mounting holes. Put a bit of filler over them and epoxy primed the whole fender. I primed the cowl as well and it needs some filler too. So, it's coming along again.

Dropped her off at the alignment shop this morning. Picked her up after noon. She steers just right now. Looking forward to putting a new Firm Feel steering gear in it.

I know..right? Every time I get up off of the concrete floor I sigh.......wishing for younger days.

I installed the hi-pressure lines for my hydra-boost system. I had Fragola build them to my specs. They look pretty good, and will blend into the "factory-installed" look I'm doing with this car. Now I gotta do the low-pressure/return lines. Stuff is starting to get really tight to turn wrenches. First wrench pulled, and tore a knuckle. I've been bleeding on the cars a bunch this week.

I finished the headlight case half this morning and started on the other one. I forgot to say that I have the frame all ready to cut out the portion where the leaf spring bracket goes. I cut the ears off of the old hanger and welded it to the side of the relocation bracket for some extra stability. It doesnt look like a good welding job but i beat on it with a sledge hammer and it made no difference, so i suppose it will hold up.

Ouch!! I've been there too many times. Sliced the top of my hand on the wiper arms a couple times, and didn't notice till blood was getting on the car....then tore a chuck outta my shin[about the size of a 1/2 dollar]. Been a stellar week for bleeding.

4:30 PM update.........Just cut my leg on a tree-branch., mowing the property. YEA!!!

WOW....yer like...a pro or something. What strategies do you use to guarantee the most injuries per day?

Put the hemi on the dyno....and ran into major carb issues. Should be running tonight, and tugs tomorrow. I gotta go see/meet Ted tonite.....so I'll miss the pulls[2 hrs from the dyno]. GRRRRRR

Just got home from the meet/greet with Ted. Awesome show. 3-piece band, and totally kicked ***. It was a bunch better than I anticipated, and Ted was really cool. One of the best meet/greets we've had. Oh, the hemi is running....my builder is making tugs tomorrow a.m.

Hey mmissile, is that at Muscle Motors? Is this the Hemi for the 66 Belvedere?

It was there for the dyno-pulls. It's back at my builder's place, now. I gotta go get it sometime..........

I was taking apart the drivers front brakes and suspension like a month ago, smacked my thumb with the hammer. :BangHead: It's still black and blue under the thumbnail. Just like the patina on an old car, just part of the history.

Just changed the heater core in my 99' Ram 2500 CTD! It took me 6 hours and I even cheated!! Gotta be due to having only 1 eye, seeing only half of everything! Lol!!

IF YOU HAVE PIRATE JACK ROTORS...READ THIS! DANGEROUS! Today, I planned on installing new drilled slotted front rotors for my 1971 Charger that I purchased from Pirate Jack. They are part number 5314RX and 5314LX and fit 1962-1972 Mopar B&E Body. I did not want to use the preinstalled bearing races (also called cups) that come with the rotors, as overseas manufactures will use the cheapest available. I removed the inner race to install an SKF bearing race (part number BR6) and realized the diameter is different. The correct race OD is 59.1mm and Pirate Jack's are 59.95mm. Ok, this seems like nothing but the correct race is completely loose and will not stay secure in the rotor. Also the correct ID of the race should be 48.2mm, but Pirate Jack's is 49.2mm which means the bearing is riding incorrectly in the race. This could EASILY lead to dangerous failure! As I have two new inner bearings (left and right) I took the photo below showing the bearing seated in Pirate Jack's race (left) and the correct race (right). You would not likely notice this unless you removed the preinstalled race.

Thoughts or feedback on this?

We loaded the 6.4, 727/ gear-vendor, disc to disc 8 3/4, and headers into my dually, and took them over to my fab guys shop. Getting all the parts over there, so in November, we can start the driveline swap on the wagon. I'm gonna load all the suspension, radiator, and other new parts into the back of the wagon... when we trailer it over late-Oct/early-Nov. Finally gonna get this stuff going.

Working on fabricating up the new replacement rear wheel upper shock supports ( the bent metal ones that I wonder "how" they can work ) . . .

sm_removetirewell19.jpg

Got additional work on both sides to build metal supports that will hold the shocks ( want them to be adjustable too ) . . .

At the car show . . . saw the following . . .

This really cool setup in a Dodge Pickup truck - Straight 8 . . . ( love the rebar )

Bought this pump and ram - going to build a hydraulic press ( thanks 747Mopar for the idea )

The local Jeep club was parked right next to the area where I parked - and I saw this - WOW !

This was on display - and I thought it would be a great "around the house" useful vehicle . . .

Saw this set of tires and I thought I finally found what I wanted for the rear of my car - but the tires are 16" wide and my wheel wells are barely 16" wide - darn it ! !

sm_carshow2016fall07.jpg

Gotta look around . . . and when this walks by while your sitting down and resting . . . what else would you do ? ?

Ahhh . . . the wonderful sights of the car show . . . Thanks ! ! !

Oh . . did I say WOW ! ! !

Finally got a working speedometer by switching the entire speedometer out. What a colossal PITA on a '71 Charger. Now, I'm trying to figure out why I have no instrument cluster lights. I think it's a bad switch. Now that pisses me off as I just had the cluster out and there's no way I'm going through that again so soon. I'm thinking of just wiring a jumper with a separate switch/fuse into the cluster lights.

I had a similar issue with dash lights and it turned out to be a bad hi-beam/low beam switch.
