What did you do to your Mopar today?

Wow that looks fantastic 1970RT.

Haven't had a lot of time to work on the car. Still trying to get the dust cover over the Hotchkis bar. YY1 suggested working it over some progressive sized sockets to try to stretch the rubber, it helped some but still not enough. Called Hotchkis Friday afternoon, they suggested trying to warm it up. mmissile suggested, use a bit of grease on the inside. Still no luck. Going to pull the LCA back off to give me a little more room and try really heating it up with a heat gun and stretching over sockets and then try to work it on the bar. I'm also thinking about pulling the bar all the way through and putting the clip in to hold the bar in, then I'll have both hand to try to get the cover on.

I was also trying pull my original steering knuckle off outer tie rod and couldn't get that off. The LCA I got had the knuckle already attached. I finally pulled off the outer tie rod and put the knuckle in a vice and use a pickle fork to get it apart. Well then i discovered that I hit the race in a spot on the tie rod and it won't move freely now. uuuuuggh. That was Saturday afternoon and no parts stores stock the tie rod. I wanted to order them from a local parts store that's been around Lansing for decades but they wouldn't match the amazon price. Sorry but $26 isn't pocket change for me. So I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try the dust cover again and hopefully get the tie rod end in the mail.

Some days be like that...

Try liquid soap on the bar, to lube it??

Rub some Vaseline over the rubber....that stuff will soften the rubber enough to get some stretch going. Just make sure to clean it all off when you're done.
Works well on new door rubbers also - helps to bed them in and create their crushed state when the door is closed.

Swapped out the original alternator on the Coronet for a 95A Powermaster. Then took the wifey on a cruise through the backroads up to Auburn for lunch and a beer at our favorite microbrewery. 50 mile round trip with no drama. I had upgraded the wiring during the resto.
The Powermaster was a straight forward 20 minute swap. They come with 2 field terminals so one terminal had to be jumpered to ground.

Worked on my big '66 Imperial this weekend. What originally started as a dash pad replacement, has become a whole lot of dash rehab work. Sent the clock off to get it converted to a quartz movement. Pulled the radio to check it out (it's dead, so is the spare!). Got the new dash speaker on the dash grille. Tore a defroster vent tube. Tore the crap out of the glovebox guts, just removing it! Pulled the ashtray unit to better access other bits. So, in addition to what I "did" on the car, I need to buy a new defroster tube, a new glovebox door, and send one of the two factory radios I have for an AM/FM/aux conversion. Oh, and install all of that before the end of this week...OK, that ain't happening...so I'll be prepping the Coronet this week for the 34th Annual Central Oklahoma Mopar Association All-Mopar Meet at the Peaks in Oklahoma City this coming Saturday, June 10th www.okcmopars.com for more information, BTW!

Hey Dawg....it was pure grunt that got the boots on...with 2-people. It was tough. My fab guy has hands like the Hulk. I got the 1st one on, with great difficulty, and was too "spent" to do the other one. He did the 2nd one, made me look like a little-girl. LOL

I can truly relate to your post.

Haha, yeah it's definitely making me feel that way too. I'll give it another go after work tonight.
Hope you're able to get the WO car ready for at least some of the events.

That works well on the seals. I believe the boots are urethane. They require lots of grunt.

Ordered a new H2O pump, went to get new drive-shaft built, replacement fans are en-route for the radiator, took more stuff to QC-Coatings.

Got the outer tie rod ends, box says made inUSA. Heading to the garage shortly.

Got back out in the shop and finished up the passenger side . . . the connection of the Stiffener needed to be completed to the inner fender . . .

Here's the passenger side ( I can see a small area that I'd like to touch up on the left ) - got some self etching primer on it

And the driver side also with a little self etching primer on the bare metal . . .

Much sturdier now . . .

Like I posted in #4516, Got the cover on the torsion bar. Discovered with the LCA out that I can actually get the torsion bar in from the front, that would have made things a little easier. Tried to get the outer tie rod threaded back into the sleeve but in won't go in straight and keeps cross threading. :BangHead: Looks like there is a bunch of corrosion and crap in the sleeve, ordered a set from PST tonight. Hopefully it won't take long to get them. I did get the LCA and strut rod loosely back on. Started to put the UCA on but I knew the wife had a bad day and was sleeping so I didn't want to make a bunch of noise banging on it. Tomorrow.

Second week of non-stop rain here as well.

Got a notice from the county about a "distressed" vehicle that needs to be moved in 10 days.

I wonder if they mean the wagon that's been under the car port for three years or the 5th Ave that's been in the back yard for 8 years, on the other side of the fence from one neighbors unregistered jeep and another neighbors unregistered 70's c10 truck.

Guess I will drag the wagon to the shop and bring the Satellite home under the car port.
I wasn't ready to start on the wagon, and this means I will have to push/pull it twice into a narrow bay, uphill both ways.

So am I thinking about this wrong? Outer tie rod in the tie rod that connects to the steering knuckles and is threaded in the sleeve, correct? I bought 2 that I looked up on Kamins Parts plus sight, they've been in Lansing for decades. They say "outer". They wouldn't match the Amazon price so I ordered them online. I couldn't get the darn thing to thread into the sleeve last night. :wtf: I asked my neighbor if he had any taps so I could clean the sleeve threads. He had some but not the size I needed. in passing he said something about the threads being the right way. Well I just looked and they are opposite on the rods ordered. Now I'm wondering, is it possible that someone flip the whole inner, sleeve, outer tie rod assembly around? :BangHead: I ordered new PST sleeves last night but probably don't "need" them. :(
