I added front and rear swaybars this weekend in the heat and humidity. All the dirt and rust that fell off the frame stuck to my sweaty arms like glue. But it's done and drives way better now.
Today I put a new carb on. The 64 Polara has a 440 built as a Magnum clone, 484/284 Purple cam, 452 heads, 354 gear. It had an Edelbrock 600 when I bought it. The PO just wanted to go to cruise ins, not a performance guy. Anyway I put a Holley 750 vacuum secondary on it, a factory refurb.
Last week I put a set of 2 chamber Flowmaster clones on to replace the stock style quiet mufflers. Also had a crossover put in the connectors to make an H-pipe and had new tailpipes put on. For some reason the PO had put a questionmark shape in the last foot of pipe that had crushed the 2.25" pipe down to about 1 3/4". The carb worked very good right out of the box, vacuum guage liked about a 1/4 turn richer on the idle mixtute screws. Very pleased with the results! Much better performance and now it sounds and runs like a hotrod instead of a stocker.
I saw on one of the tv shows that to clean the windshield use
“Ultra fine 40 steel wool & window cleaner” . I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t confirm that it works.
This was suggested to me by a engineering friend . . . it says it's for tempered glass, and I doubt your stuff is, but the glass surface is still the same . . .
My brother picked up my car Tuesday night. Wednesday he adjusted the new kick down cable then had to make a new bracket for the throttle cable. Once the kick down was setup the throttle only opened 1/4 way. He made a couple other minor adjustments and fixes then took it to the alignment shop. No word Until Thursday afternoon. Texted me looking for specs for the used QA1 UCA & LCA that I installed, making sure they were right for the car.
Called him early evening. they told him the car was ready, so he picked it up and started driving it. Didn’t get far, one side of the suspension broke.
Friday, he texted me a bit ago, the alignment shop was using the wrong specs and bent the tubes. My brother is going to get chrome moly tubing and build new ones out of it. Hopefully nothing else was messed up underneath. I don’t know how far it dropped and haven’t seen it. Really bummed about taking up so much of my brothers time with this.
Gonna owe him big time. Also sucks that I lost my money clip yesterday with $500+ in it. I’ve never dropped it before. Most of that was to pay him.
Picked up a new Dynomax exhaust system for the Dakota. Guess I'll be on the carport lying on my back tonight. Thank goodness for pneumatic tools.
Yeah, I know its only single exhaust but the engine is stock.
Next up is the Hughes intake plenum kit. Wish I had used it 3 years ago but I wasn't keeping the truck...or so I thought.
