What did you do to your Mopar today?

Getting the old Plymouth ready for
a level III vin inspection.
All modern equipment must be
installed and operational.
Horn, lights, wiper, Ebrake, seatbelts,
turn Signals, marker lamps, backup
and license plate light. Some of these
did not come as standard equipment
on a 1940 Truck.

My favorite truck, I learned to drive in my grandaddies 41 3/4 ton flatbed in 1958. If i cleaned up sawdust in his shop I could drive the truck down in back field to dump it.

We did not have Plymouth trucks in Canada. We had Fargo instead, sold by Plymouth dealers.

Yesterday I got insurance, registration and plates for the old 63. 9 years and I can drive it legally.
Today took it for a shake down run. 22 miles. I still get a vibration around 45 mph on a coast, fine on a pull.
60 mph with 4.10's around 3100 rpm. Plans to do more friendly gears soon.Only gonna be a street car.
Have been playing with pinion angle. Spicer app says it is right. Gives me something to think about.

Driveshaft balanced? Tires balanced?

Yes I installed new U joints too. Drivetrain is 1970 318/904.
Just working out the bugs. Everything came out of a 70 Coronet.
Difference is wheel base of 117 from the 70 vs 116 on the 63. Maybe shaft is too long ? I checked and it has ample room to slide in the tailshaft.
2'' at rest. Just a thought.

outside vegas returning from mopars at the strip. all needs covered gas stop !

today.. 1 subframe connector... next week.. maybe the other..

A detail job today. I was running a 1/4 inch fiber insulator under the carb. I had tried my 1/2 inch 4 hole phenolic spacer, but the air cleaner rubbed the hood bracing. Since I switched to the drop base and taller air filter, I figured it should fit now. I decided to cut out the secondary bores to match the street demon goggle valve secondary. The air cleaner clears the hood fine now.

4.10's = high driveshaft speed which amplifies the severity of even minor issues.

Balance is only one component, two other things that can cause a vibration issue are u-joint phasing and runout. none of those conditions are easy to detect or correct without some specialized equipment. I highly recommend having a driveline shop check it out.
