What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

I worked on my brother in law’s car. The first order of business was to use a piston stop to figure out TDC on the balancer. The SFI balancer is made for 70 and up so the ‘69 timing tab was on the wrong side for the markings on the balancer. After taking it off the engine stand we went to change out the pilot bushing, but there wasn’t even one in there. I install the new pilot bushing, flywheel, and clutch. Next we installed the scatter shield. After eyeballing things a little bit, we decided to try dropping it in without removing the hood. The little 340 slid right in. Installing the headers was the worst part of the deal.

Tomorrow we will stab the transmission and start hooking everything up. Ronnie still has some wiring to do so it will head back to his house on a trailer.

The cheesy poly Chin'a cover on the tent out back got blown to smithereens last winter during a heavy storm, so I put a new Heavy Duty American Made PVC cover on it today. Dang thing weighs 136 pounds, so it was a real chore getting it on there by myself. Thankfully, my wife did help a bit here and there though. Whenever I needed to be in two places at the same time.

Took the day off to beat the brakes off the JK.
Had a sqeeel, but it was gone Friday, Saturday front right caliper locked up, thought I was gonna Johnny Cash on the way home, freaking hot! Got new everything on the front, went to bleed the back and what da ya know. Backside pads been doing all the work. Then while beating the rotor off the retainer clip popped. Well the Jeep literally Just Emptied Every Pocket. New everything in the back is inbound, cause our local store sucks and sells ****.
Now I noticed my rear track bars are getting rusty UGH!

My old reliable Balfour bench grinder I got from my dad finally decided to go ‘poof’. Well, it was around 75 years old using it for 30-years. Had it set up with the abrasive wheel on the left and an open wire-wheel on the right, I could switch to a polishing wheel. I got another old grinder from my FIL, Delta I’ve had stored for 15 years now, bit larger than the Balfour. Cord on it was rather iffy so put the nicer cord from the other one on it and tested it. It’s a beefy grinder, not fun to hoist around. Removed the cast-iron guard for the wire-wheel hope to finish it today as I have a bunch of wire-wheeling to do.

The open wheel is a safer arrangement as is using more of the wheel. Years ago when having a guard on it yet, lost grip on a small part and sucked into the guard then launching out; part was destroyed. Only thing with the Delta is the OH viewing guard can’t be used w/o some other ingenuity. I wear safety glasses always anyway and stand to the side when starting it up. As for the Balfour, started taking it apart and seems as though a lot of the inner wiring is burned up so question as whether I’ll try to repair it or scrap it. Years back made a stand for the grinder I can move around, post welded to a 75lb weight and welded stand plate.

Notice it's actually 2 degrees warmer inside!

...but that 40% difference in humidity made it feel like walking from the over to the icebox.

It stayed at 99% for almost 2 whole days!
I checked the NOAA/NWS station near me and they actually recoded several 100% humidity conditions over the 13th to the 16th. Of course when I went back to get screen shots, it had aged out.

Our Duck “penny” just got home from surgery. She got a broken leg last week and we had it pinned. She is recovering in the A/C now, down for 4 weeks until she can go back with her friends… I am thinking we should change her name though since it was $1400!

Dropped the charger off at the garage for an alignment. Made 200 bullets for an upcoming competition. Bush hogged a 10 acre pasture. Had a quick swim, then went and worked on setting up the stages for upcoming competition. All this while we had a balmy 106 degree heat index.

Brought out two boxes of transmission linkages, carburetor linkages, brackets, mounts, from the 60's, and 70's, that have been in storage for the past 40+ years.

Now i hafta go, and somehow figure out what i have.
Only a few things are labeled, what i took things off of, back in the dinosaur days.
