What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Been nothing but hot and humid here lately but with a small shower here and there which makes the humidity worse when the sun comes back out. Got most of the place mowed on Tuesday after working for several days to clean up the mess of tree trimmings that the power company did and left it lay. With all the storm damage in the Houston area, the crews are busy as bees and they said that it could be more than 2 weeks before they could clean it up. But to top that off, the power was shut down so the trim crew could work without fear of getting zapped. The power was supposed to be off for 5 hours but someone dropped the ball and it ended up being off for 23 1/2 hours! Well, my generator needed to be run anyways.

Monsoon season has set in here.

Last week 95 degrees but only 30% humidity and 0-20% rain chance.
That's the weather I thought I was going to get moving to FL.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
10-12 weeks per year tops. Spring and Fall.

This week started at 89 degrees but 55% humidity and an over night 5 hour thunderstorm with 35 MPH winds and driving rain.
Last 2 days same temp with humidity creeping up to over 65% and scattered showers every day.
Forecast yesterday was 80/80/70/70/60/70/80
Revised today to 50/50/50/40/50/40/50
Will probably change again tomorow.
My guess by the end of June humidity will be 80%
...and by July we could get a day or two of 99 degrees and 99%.....with no rain.
Can you say oppressive?

I am supposed to go look at that jeep tomorrow, weather permitting.

Was out in back of the shop a bit ago where my gauge has 99% on it and that's dang near every morning. The only time it shows 100% is when it's raining but have also seen 80% while raining lol

We actually have had NOAA recorded 100% humidity and no rain.

I didn't think it was possible, but apparently it is.

I do remember it was difficult to breathe and as soon as you walked outside you were immediately exhausted, not to mention drenched in sweat.

Yep and thanks to the "don't need a licence" crowd gill netting, it's possession of one only and there is a slot size. That is Lake Nippissing. Come up to my lake.. we're still allowed 5.
A-holes gotta ruin it for everybody else.

5, eh? Any slot?

New project. I bought a 9' x 13' motorized pergola that opens and closes completely with rain gutters. Time to redevelop part of the back yard.

Unloading the pergola:

Breaking ground:

Next, reroute an overflow pipe coming from a drywell nearby:

A quick break to exercise a largemouth bass:

Place some road fabric for weed control:

Then rock:

Next, build a retaining wall. It will go up 2 more tiers after I grade down to this level. Then I'll install a paver patio for the pergola consisting of 8.5" of rock, sand and pavers.

Which pergola did you get? I have been thinking about putting one up here at the homestead ever since I erected an aluminum 10x12 the brewery down the road. For cost, ease of construction, and durability they are really, really slick.

It's made by Apollo Opening Roofs (Apolloopeningroof.com) in California. It has 6" x 6" extruded aluminum posts and 8" beams. The seller was a contractor who ordered it wrong. He claimed they sell for $12k-$15k and was asking $4,900. I gave him $3k. That is probably less than I would spend on materials (wood) if I built one myself, but I wouldn't build a pergola with fixed slats because they are not rain proof. The motorized function will really give it a custom feel and look. There are many options made from Chinesium but this one is really well made and should last. Hell, the wind shear rating is 180mph and it also has a rain sensor to close the roof when rain starts.

@#41 what part of WA are you in?

Being eaten alive by Deer flies and trying to get the bunkie spot cleared to bedrock so I can start the base tomorrow. Bunkie kit being delivered on Tuesday. Hoping we can tilt n load direct onto our barge but suspect we'll be hand bombing the damn thing.

Don't you love a good deal like that? I was wondering what the motorized part was, and that is really neat.

I like the opening slats, but realistically they would probably rust up solid in the closed position here........ as I'm on the central west side.

Au Contraire. The aluminum slats pivot on these nylon pins. I'm also on the west side in rain country.

Many a man would have quit by now! 8 hours non stop while I winched, cut and jacked trees out of the bedrock. 29C and 80% humidity, guess she deserves at least one beer...

Went to a Home Depot store that i haven't been to at another city near my town.
Our local Home Depot has been getting worse and worse these days, that i hate going into it.

My wife is about to install flooring in our two "spare" bedrooms.
She doesn't drink beer, but I can probably get a margarita or two into her.

That means what I'll be doing today besides working on my car- is moving furniture.
