What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Sorting scrap...hope to take it in by Wednesday. Heavy trash haul is working out here today so will probably have a good pile of remnants to bag up. Regular trash is also Wednesday. At least the rain quit but now it's over 10 degrees hotter with 85% humidity.

What's scrap steel going for where you're at?

I've got a bunch and a car to cut up.

IIRC the last time I took some it was $9.

Seems like before that it was under $6 for YEARS.

Well, stuck a "heart monitor" on my chest this morning, that i have to wear for the next 7 days.
More diagnostics to see, find out, what really happened to me, July 5th, blacking out, going unconscious.
I have a replacement "cow valve" put in, four years ago. (MOO.)

Anyone, have to ever wear one of these, for the doctors to figure out what was wrong with you?

Just got back home a little while ago, from the Mather VA Hospital, getting the stitches taken out of the gashes on my forehead, from my "blacking out" going unconscious, last Friday, here in the bathroom, in my house.

Sir, I hope all goes well. A good friend of mine's wife had a valve put in about 17-18 years ago. We moved here 7 years ago. I just heard Thursday, she’s going to have to have surgery this coming week. Thoughts and prayers are with you, take care!

Hope you’re feeling better

I wore one a few years ago. Walked into my kitchen one day and blacked out, hit the floor and came to when I smacked the tile. Wore the monitor and turned out to be atrial flutter - electrical misfire in my heart, the 2 halves beat against each other, causing a racing beat but no blood pressure. Once diagnosed, it was an outpatient surgery with a scope. In through the groin, up through an artery, cauterized the misfiring nerves, and home for dinner.

Ya, that's the reason they put a cow valve on my heart.
Arterial fibrillation, that they diagnosed me with.

I've done 30 days twice. Everything normal. I do have a leaky valve that will have to be replaced but I'm pumping 65%-70% so I'll wait.

Yes, I had to wear one for a full month, 31 days. What a total PITA that was, especially after the results showed NO problems with my heart. Well I guess that's actually a good thing though.

Same issue as you, blacked out and hit the floor (and a few other things on the way down). I go in for my 7th MRI test on tuesday since I fell last December. I can't say that these doctors aren't trying to find the cause of that fall with all the tests I've gone through, but still no for sure cause.

More demo...

Shitty paneling in the living room is down; glue-covered drywall underneath is down (couldn't just be CLEAN drywall, oh no....grrr); shitty tile ceiling is down and shittier drywall ceiling that was above it, also down

Pulled the island cabinets out (built in place - REAL cabinets, not the crap they use today, these things fought back!), pulled the 50 yr old linoleum and found 75 yr old linoleum underneath that (yay!)....

I also got the oven out. Tall cabinet goes next, then the set against the back wall. Removing them carefully - they're in great shape and I plan to clean and reuse them to save some $$. Those overheads are gonna be tough - like I said, they're built in place and they're real 5/8 hardwood plywood. Worst case they're going in the garage - depends what happens during the design and rebuild.then, the rest of the ceiling comes out and I should be done with demo.

I don't do much scrap these days so it's been awhile since going in with a heavy load but back in March and April, 'mixed metal' which was steel was .07/lb, aluminum 'breakage' was .12c/lb, 'low grade' (whatever that is lol) was .90.....and iirc, that was wiring. Aluminum cans was .70c. I have some stainless steel, brass and some copper this time and I'll post that up after I can take it down there. This place is a small and very local yard so prices are a bit lower than the big places but they are only about 2 miles from me and the nearest large yard made it harder to bring in scrap by wanting to weigh the truck so if I had aluminum and other metals, I had to go to a different area and unload that first then weigh the truck with the steel still on it. Anyways, with a small load, going 2 miles one was is easier than going 10 miles one way and way less hassle :). Now if I had a large load, I'd go to the place that's more of a hassle especially if the load was nothing but steel. And I remember the years when prices were lower than dog dew.

Here it's quoted in "hundred pounds", so your 7c is 7 bucks per hundred.

Think I'll sit on mine if it's that low here.

This little place I use doesn't take cars unless they are cut up pretty good and these days.....well, been years since I cut one up. The other place does take whole cars IF the engine etc is out. I just don't do the volume anymore that I used to do so, I'm good with getting something for the stuff instead of just throwing it away. I used to collect cans from a local beer joint and the guy even bought a few extra garbage cans to bag them in and the payoff was taking the trash too which wasn't all that much.

The city I live in does recycle pickup now too so the cardboard and glass would all go to that. He's no longer with us and sold the business years ago. IIRC, cans back then was 35c and was making 3 pickups a week and sometimes 4. And when the prices were fluctuating a lot, I'd call to see what the prices were. Sometimes just waiting a couple few days made a good difference. Also when I was keeping up with the stock markets, I'd pay attention to the metal prices and whenever that would jump, I'd get on the phone.

I've been taking the car about 2-300 pounds at a time, along with other scrap steel I accumulate.

There's a few more things I'd like to get off it, but it's taking up valuable shop space.

I took a full 5x8 trailer last time including a ford 8.8 axle.

Got 145 bucks.

Almost not worth it any lower than $10

Had lunch at a Lake St. Clair bar, with Tom Tignanelli of Shadowoods Racing. Had a crab Po' Boy.

Now that the kid is out and has her own place, the large grill we had was no longer needed and really needed to be replaced anyway. So we did with a much smaller tabletop grill and the new pizza oven. So we didn’t have anything to place them on so couple days later.. now we do. We’ll see how it works??

Stripped out the seats floor and washed the floor on my fishing boat. Both my sons chipped in this afternoon which was a huge help.
This was a lot of work in the heat.

Bought myself a modern, to me anyway, Samsung 50" inch TV set at our local Best Buy store, and brought that home, this afternoon.
Now to ditch the old tv, and hook up this new one, and learn, for this old man, to figure it all out.
