What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Well, 102˚ here today so I poured some Dust Bowl Brewing IPA into my cold mug, and grabbed a little more summer.
We *should* be done with 100s after this week.
Of course, we've said that before! It dipped into the 70s a few weeks back and we even had a rain storm so we figured it might be fall....nope!

I am always surprised by the amount of people that want to take pictures of my Satellite.
It was a great trip and a really good way to find the things I need to address.
Turn brake rotors and upgrade pads, windshield needs replaced
Pump seal on transmission
Drive line angle has a vibration
Pretty satisfied with that list
Usually my 66 Belvedere 2dr sedan got questions like 'what is that' even in the late 80's lol
Played musical cars today and moved the lift over to another bay to make room for the return of “the roach” in a couple of weeks. The car under the blue cover will go on top of the car trailer for the winter and the bronze car will go under the lift.

Also , I made a bracket for the tractor bucket to move the trailer around easier.

Have a hitch on the back of my Gravely but now that it's 40 years old, the forward clutch isn't as good as it once was. :D
I may be dumb, but I’m not stupid.
Weeel, are the two really that far apart!? :poke: :D
I went out to the farm earlier to fix a few electrical issues my brother was having with his kitchen lighting. Turned out to be nothing more than a bad toggle switch, and I also found a loose wire nut connection...easy stuff.
After that we took a ride on the Gator. Almond harvest is done so we checked out the wine grapes and did a general varmint patrol. No 'yotes but we did get buzzed by a huge barn owl...sneaky bastards! It's pretty cool though when a bird with a 4' wingspan flies a foot over your head without making a sound..

Last year a hawk came in after a squirrel that was kinda close to me (yeah, I feed them) and it surprised me at how wide their wing span is! It was at least 4'!
No, didn't work on my car, but did work on my brother's car. He's had a 72 cutlass convertible in my barn for over 30 years, I told him it's time to do something about it. So we tried to bar the engine (455) over, it was seized. Not a surprise.

Popped off the valve covers, surprisingly spotless. Pulled the intake manifold, nice clean lifter valley. Then we pulled the heads and found a bit of a problem.

One of the cylinders was a mouse condo. Full of bits of carpet fragments. The piston was down at the bottom of the stroke, cylinder was completely filled up.

I pulled out a lot of compacted fluff...
View attachment 1733010

Oh well, at least the heads were good. But wait...maybe not. Under all that fluff I found that a valve head had rusted off. Mouse urine sure must be corrosive. The piston top had craters in it the size of blueberries. And actually getting past a partially open valve originally and set up living quarters in the first place meant that it must have been a pretty small creature.

Not much fun going on under the hood, so we decided to poke around the back. Years ago I dragged a 12 bolt rear end out of a 1970 Cutlass to put into this car to replace the 10 bolt. Well guess what, Oldsmobile put 12 bolts on the cover, but hid a 10 bolt carrier inside. Turned out to be an exciting 2.56 gear ratio, non posi. What a drag.
Wow.....but I've seen that kind of stuff before. Found a mouse in my shop toilet a couple of days ago which was a total surprise. Haven't seen a field mouse around here in years. He got a free ride into the county flood control ditch....
Umm yeah, that was a joke but someone felt compelled to delete it for some reason. Can't a guy poke some fun around here? Thanks for reposting it though.

Anyone can toggle the visibility of the form and post just like i am using Web Developer Tools built into their browser. I posted the css code as a tempory work around so that others could post too but i guess we all can just wait.
I was joking in my own way....sorry if I offended you.

A little work yesterday on my 71. Cut most the wood on my cut list for the grill
Impressive! Was going to post pantry shelving work I'm doing for one of my daughters, but seriously elementary compared with your project so I'll skip it, lol.

Heck, it's still 90 here as I type and hit 95....still better than 105 though.

Adding small pieces of fiberglass mat to the hood scoop I cut apart, so I could lower the floor of the opening 1"

Scoop only had a 2-1/4" vertical opening. Now it has 3-1/4"

The season is a changing by me, absolutely gorgeous weather past few days, high 60’s, low 70’s little humidity. Ahh, but the trees are once again signaling what’s coming by color changes and falling leaves. Crap weather is coming, cold, rain, snow, wind, hoping for a mild winter, but never know. Starting to work on the ancient plow truck to get it prepped for the ¼-mile driveway.

Lol, every year for past ten, not sure if it will hold up for another winter…91 Dodge 2500 w/ stick, with 112k miles on it, my long-departed FIL bought new. Sort of hate to give it up having some sentimental value. If I was a younger guy I would do a resto, liking that truck, as it is rusted bad…still runs strong. Those days for me doing anymore major resto are behind...if I keep my wits about me.

I have a rear hitch on my tractor, but the short wheelbase of the tractor and the long wheelbase of the trailer combined with me having to twist around in the seat while backing up is a chore and a half when maneuvering it into he garage.

Same here.....had to learn not to make sharp corrections but depending on how heavy the trailer was, I just rode on the hood of the garden tractor. Made it a LOT easier to watch where things were going lol

It's been a somber few days. Seeing the devastating effects of the hurricane. On a personal note. A friend who has been going thru some hard times. Including some serious health issues. Who was renting my lower part of my house died Monday night. His niece called me and asked if I could do a wellness check since he was not answering his phone. I went downstairs and found him between his bedroom and the basement bathroom. It was obvious he had been dead for 2+ hours.

I'm glad I was the one to discover, and not his daughter or nieces. And his sudden death was not completely surprising with the down turn of his condition in the past week. We made numerous attempts to get him to the hospital. But he kept insisting "Tomorrow."

I believe he knew that once he committed that he would not return to a situation that didn't require extensive assisted living. Believing he can "Tough it out." But his weakened heart said something else.

If nothing else? He died on his own terms. But never the less, news on any front these past few days don't seem to be good.

Sorry to hear about your friend......prayer goes out to his family and friends.

I visited dad in the hospital he's 87 and has Parkinson, and he got covid, made him to weak to stand up or walk, visited mom also at home she's got it also, when I got to the hospital my sister texted me she's in there also 5 doors from dad covid and my youngest brother is at home you guessed it. Some how I have been ok even though I was the one helping dad and mom and took him to the hospital. That's all! Shewww.
Hopefully all will be better soon...

My 87 y/o dad 'lives with me'
I can completely understand & relate
he goes to like 3 dr.s a month at a min, you name it he goes to it,
& probably the ER at least every other month, for some crap
he's a hypochondriac now, he never was when younger,
after his quadruple bypass at 82 & living in 6 months of rehab after,
he's paranoid...

I just take him, not worth the grief & arguments...

I'm surprised he hasn't gotten Chinese Wuhan Flu crap since we
(he got it & gave it to me, thanks dad) initially got it in Dec 2019
I've never been vaccinated for it either (I'm of pure blood), he's had all the boosters...
They don't stop ****...

Well, i got a haircut.
Would that count? lol
I don't need to get a haircut for 1 1/2 to 2 years, just to trim me up, and look a bit better, due to a medication that i have to take for a bone marrow mutation, that just slows down the growth of hair, tremendously.

WOW!! you did good!!
Now that I can post again:

Thanks @Hey-O . It was a good day on the ocean. We were on a deep reef Ling cod and rock (bottom) fish trip. They drop 6 crab pots on the way out and we scored 108 keepers which worked out to 9 apiece for the 12 guys on the boat (my buddy gave me a couple extra). I did this trip in April and came home with 1 1/2 crabs. I also got my 2 Lings and 5 rock fish. The ocean was the flattest I've EVER seen, and I've been out on some flat days. Awesome day and a great bunch of guys to fish with.

That's too cool and makes for a great story!! I'm glad for you!!

Painted the grill with a hammer finish paint, it was old, very old and didn't come out like it did years ago. The pieces you see are the end of the front fenders as they meet the hood just above the grill. The sanded 1/2" plywood is junk. It keeps on fuzzying up even after sanding and primer has been applied. Sand again, paint, and I still get a fuzzy finish. What do you want for 45 bucks.......

Cleared potential missiles from the yard and boarded up the larger windows.
Chained my trailer and car dolly to a large oak.
Put all my unused freezy packs in the freezer.
Baked another package of bacon.
