What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

The past few unusually warm days I spent arranging/prepping/covering all the cars for winter. I'd sold a couple this summer so actually had enough room! Then late yesterday and into today I did the same for motorcycles. However:

During the pandemic I'd discovered motorcycles were priced pretty right and parts much more affordable than collector car parts, so ended up buying a few project motorcycles. Worked on those over the winter and would start selling once the snow melted. Have continued the same for the subsequent years, usually buying in fall when prices are lowest. Some I bought with best intentions but once back on the road couldn't bring myself to part with those, so my personal collection grew a bit. Last winter I fixed up and sold 4 right away come spring. Thought I was doing pretty well.

Today when I finished I thought, geez it seems like there are a lot of motorcycles lined up here. I counted them and have 20 now! Just like cars, things have gotten completely out of hand.

Truss day…..someone’s getting a new shop. Had to get the brain trust in the 2nd picture, big talk from the “honchos”!

It's overrated, I'll sleep when I'm dead. I promised our Daughter I'd make use of every day we're still top side... I'm doing my best for her...
When I read that, it took me back. My dad used to say the same thing, I'll sleep when I'm dead!! As far as your promise, you know what I'm thinking.

Charging all the batteries, lower unit checked, two new fuel filters so she's ready to go come Spring. Mulch plate on the Lastec and off I go to kill leaves...

Helped a friend pick up a new/used ride for his wife. 8 hour roundtrip. Plus daily, since it's migration time, filling Hummingbird feeders. Have 4 that hold a quart each. 3 get wiped out by midday. We are doing double batches of hooch for them right now. Almost blowing through 15lbs of sugar a week currently. Awesome little critters to watch.

Replaced a dieing Halloween blow up decoration with one I found on a trip to Ace Hardware for some zip ties. Amazingly, 9 days before Halloween, they are discounting 25% or more. Since this was a display, the guy sold it deeply discounted at $10.49! I put it up yesterday, and this morning my wife got emotionally challenged and had me take it down because she thinks it too close represents a Ku Klux clan man. Living the dream in California.

I'm assuming birds. Of course when I took the picture, they weren't around. Many other times we walk out to check the feeders, it's like watching a slow motion vid of a 12ga #4 load scattering. Easily 30+ at once scattering.
The car was just a Honda Element. Why waste a picture on that.

Yes, of the birds. lol I am fan of birds. I have 2 suet feeders and basically a mini-pool bird bath for them. I had (well still have) a hummingbird feeder that we put out one year-the kind you suction to the window-but nobody bought what we were selling. :(

After work I continued preparing for the coming winter by clearing off the potting bench and putting away all of my wife’s decorations from the hosta garden. It got dark early so I spent a little time in the shop putting a $18 Amazon carb on my backpack blower, it now runs better than it ever did…

Long ago my wife wanted seed type feeders. I was against them because of what lands on the ground thereby attracting rodents. Mice chewed through the bottom garage door seal to get to the sacks. Ended up putting the sacks into metal trash cans. She also like to leave the garage to house pass way door open so the cats could go into the garage and cat around. I was ok with the cats checking things out but still wanted the feeders to leave. It wasn't until said mice got into the house that I got the ok to pitch the feeders and seed. Growing up on a farm compared to city kid. She's ok with being, as she calls me, Little Hitler.

This year was the first time I have had mice in the garage. My neighbor has chickens and I am assuming the mice are foraging on the chicken feed. We had seed in the bird houses for years and never had a problem. The seed is stored in plastic containers in the 3 seasons room. I put a stop to all the seed in the bird feeders until the mouse problem is completely resolved.

Hour and a half drive each way to drop the baby off at the hospital. I'll save the crying until the bill comes...

It's a wrap. Project completed and time for cleanup. Next spring I'll do some landscaping around the new patio.

Here's the feature that convinced me to buy a pergola. Living in the NW, I'm not a fan of fixed pergolas. Why would you build a roof that doesn't keep the rain out? But this one is motorized. Its waterproof design includes a gutter system that channels the rain down one of the posts into an outflow pipe into the pond. You can see the low voltage area lights under the beams and the accent strip lights above the gutters.

Replacement time, the old Craftsman finally gave it up after 25+ yrs.
Went to the local NAPA and looked at a new one there. I thought it looked eerily similar to the Daytona ones at HF. Quick trip to HF verified that was indeed identical, for $225 less.
They are both made in China as was the old Craftsman. HF one comes with a 3yr. warranty versus 90 day one at NAPA. And of course the candy apple red metallic cinched it.

And I thought I took things to the extreme. Everything in those pictures is absolutely beautiful. I have several friends with fixed pergolas and I never got what they were good for, besides just looking at or growing vines up and over them. All my homes had covered patios so I could sit out and listen to it rain and most of all, stay out of the blazing sun. Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!

We killed some paper today. The wife and I and a close friend went to the range. I took my 45-70 loaded with some 405gr cast bullets and RE-7, it shot very well. Also brought my Swiss K31,it's always nice. The wife shot her 30-30 and competition 10-22. She puts it in the ten ring at 100yds all day long with the 10-22. My buddy had his 300 win mag and 223 bolt action.
It was a good day
