I bought a lot in the middle of town, 1.5 acres of land and a 5 acre lake some 35 years ago. Built a big house on it. It was like a park when I got done with it, 60 foot oak trees all over it. One hour on a riding mower, one hour with a push mower and one hour with a weed whacker. My son wanted to ride that mower so bad that I finally let him. Showed him how to start it, drive it, steer it, stop it, you name it, we learned it. Came home the next day from work, it was a Saturday and there was the mower up against the tree. He'd get to close and turn and the front tire would catch the tree and snap the ball joint. Three times of that happening and I got him his own rider. He drove that thing like it was a car forever. Then he got a radio controlled speed boat for the lake, man that thing flew!! Got him a paddle boat for the lake and built a boat ramp with a winch to go get the boat when it got stuck out there. When the tires went bad on his mower we got him a mini bike. I built it with him from junk and turned it into the thing that gave him his real feel of independence. Between the track we built and the 200 foot of concrete driveway, 80 feet of sidewalk, the world was his. He had a love for the smell of gas and anything that used it. I look back and don't regret a thing, those were my good old days!!!
