Hey,Hey,Hey
Thanks for the reply. It's right on the concrete slab. New stuff going down same way. It won't be me getting it off anyway. I tried putting water on the mortar, but it didn't do too much. Just used a spray bottle. I didn't want to get carried away with the water, while holding the electric grinder in the other hand. What's under the old mortar? If it's cement board (or any other layer of nonstructural subfloor) it may be easier to pull that out and put in a fresh layer....
You can also grind it wet, cuts down on dust.
I have 2 floors in my home that were tile on slab-on-grade. I started the demo process on one and figured out on the 1st tile that there was no way to remove it and leave the concrete undamaged where I could retile it without resurfacing it. I ended up installing floating laminate on one, and LVT on the other. Easy install, they came out great and feel solid when walking on. Sounds like you're beyond that point now. Thanks for the reply. Years ago, I rented something similar to what I fashioned together now, only it was long and heavy. Can't do that anymore.
I guess I went about this the wrong way. About 5 or 6 months ago, I put a new toilet and ring in. It's a taller toilet than that was in there. It is a thought though. The bolts are still long. Thinking that might be better.Just pull the toilet. It's one water valve, two bolts and a wax ring. Good excuse for a new wax ring.
You'll end up pulling it and replacing it when you damage it while cutting tile anyway. And I guarantee the new flooring will have a different finish height. Duct tape and a sand bag will keep sewer vapor out while you work.
update ,hope she is well.Took the wife for her next MRI scan. Hopefully the cancer is gone.
If you have a decent hammer drill, you can get wide chisel attachments for them. I have a couple for my Bosch driill....very useful, even for getting up old cork tiles. Thanks for the reply. Better to stuff the pipe 'loosely' with toilet paper - that way if you forget to remove everything, the paper will flush away. The last thing you want is a rag down the pipes. That was what my Plumber did for mine, and it works well. No smells at all.Duct tape and a sand bag will keep sewer vapor out while you work.
Thanks Dave. Originally she had 5 spots discovered last May. She went thru the Gamma Knife(Gamma Rays) procedure over 3 days in July. The follow-up MRI in October showed all 5 were eliminated. This MRI showed that a lesion has reappeared in one of the same spots but they are not sure if its dead matter from the Gamma Ray or if its another cancer. She is doing another special MRI next week with a special dye that will be injected. The wife has been a trooper thru all of this. Her Kemo treatments has reduced the spot on her lung tremendously from 4.8 centimeters down to 1.7 centimeters and shrinking. For me its been very nerve wracking cause all I can do is be there for any emotional support. For me, I'm use to fixing things. The wife told the docs to be as aggressive as possible. When she gets angry, she kicks ***. Sorry for this speech but sometimes it helps to talk things out even with caring strangers. Thanks again.update ,hope she is well.
