Woke up early to collect my brother and go hire a solid trailer to pick up his Harley that broke down last weekend. It had been looked after at the Vineyard where he stopped with fellow riders last weekend during a rural cruise. Removed the saddle bags and seat + screen to make tying down a bit easier.
Tilting trailer is normally used for small diggers and bobcats...real nice action when you load up the deck - drops smooth and slow.
Clutch cable stretched and let go. Can't ride like that.....even shifting like @dadsbee

Quite a lumpy and hilly 30 mile drive each way.... unloaded and returned the trailer in under 3 hours - I thought it would take much longer than that. Stopped six times to check the strops and security of the bike. All good with no damage.

:xscuseless:

Did some outside freeze prep on faucets and noticed the foam on one is getting a bit thin. It's on the inlet to the shop and will let the water run slowly on that one. Then cleaned up the carport where the beater lives. Going to hook up a light under the oil pan since it doesn't have any anti-freeze in it. Have everything needed and will put it on sometime today.

Thursday I drove a friend down to the LA area so he could get some pre op tests done at Cedars Sinai. We got down there at a decent time so we hit the Peterson Museum. Took some shots of the old F1 cars and a McClaren Can Am car. Love the pre hybrid F1 and the Can Am cars. Some older Indy cars too before they became clones like NASCAR.

I'm too old for this, but determined to get it done. I find it takes me five times as long to do everything now. I decided to re -tile our bathroom floor. Started off with a small chisel and hammer to bust some of the old tiles loose. I then decided to get the old mortar off the concrete floor.
I thought this was taking too long so I got my grinder out and tried that. Big mistake. Dust went everywhere, including our bedroom. I put the grinder up and went back to the little chisel. Laying on the floor while doing this hurt my bad back too much, so I found a piece of steel sqare tubing that the chisel fit into and I went after it again while sitting in an old chair. Afternoons are bad for me so I only work mornings. Should have paid someone to do this job,I know.
So yesterday while I was hammering away, my old chair decided to collapse under me. Sore as hell thise morning but determined to get this job done. Only got two more big tiles to go and a few cut pieces and then grout. Well rest and rant over, time to get back at it.

What's under the old mortar? If it's cement board (or any other layer of nonstructural subfloor) it may be easier to pull that out and put in a fresh layer....

You can also grind it wet, cuts down on dust.

Thanks for the reply. It's right on the concrete slab. New stuff going down same way. It won't be me getting it off anyway. I tried putting water on the mortar, but it didn't do too much. Just used a spray bottle. I didn't want to get carried away with the water, while holding the electric grinder in the other hand.
Years ago, I rented something similar to what I fashioned together now, only it was long and heavy. Can't do that anymore.

I have 2 floors in my home that were tile on slab-on-grade. I started the demo process on one and figured out on the 1st tile that there was no way to remove it and leave the concrete undamaged where I could retile it without resurfacing it. I ended up installing floating laminate on one, and LVT on the other. Easy install, they came out great and feel solid when walking on. Sounds like you're beyond that point now.

Yeah it's getting there. I left the best for last got to do the door area and the toilet. Don't want to be taking the toilet up. Thinking about getting thin cardboard or paper and making a template for cutting the tiles on a curve, maybe with a dremel tool. They are 12" tiles and most of that will have to be cut out.

Just pull the toilet. It's one water valve, two bolts and a wax ring. Good excuse for a new wax ring.

You'll end up pulling it and replacing it when you damage it while cutting tile anyway. And I guarantee the new flooring will have a different finish height. Duct tape and a sand bag will keep sewer vapor out while you work.

I guess I went about this the wrong way. About 5 or 6 months ago, I put a new toilet and ring in. It's a taller toilet than that was in there. It is a thought though. The bolts are still long. Thinking that might be better.
