What was your first Mopar and do you still own any of it?

First Mopar was my 70 GTX that I bought in 1979 (the year I graduated high school), still have it and it's not going anywhere soon either.

when I brought it home in 79

What it looks like now, I restored it in the early 90's

Just purchased a 66 Belvedere II last September and just finished the underside of car a couple weeks ago, not finished**posted pictures today

First for me was a '68 GTX, 4 speed. Still have the choke (couldn't replace at the time) and a whole bunch of memories...

My first was a 1970 Ddodge Charger RT SE 426 Hemi. I paid 1700.00 in 1974. I still have the original motor in pieces at Home in my Garage. I am waiting on the current owner who knows who I am to pay me 40K for the original all numbers matching motor.i was offered 28,000.00 I said no. it requires patience.

I had been wanting to get back into the muscle car hobby for quite a while.(I'm 56 yrs old now) Life and finances got in the way. 2013 was a good year business wise so I went to a Mecum auction in Jan 2014 and bought my 67 GTX, 440 4 speed. I had always been a GM guy, but was wanting something different, so I blindly took the plunge.
So few Mopars at the shows compared to the dozens of Chevelles, Camaros, etc,, make me smile every time I go :)

that is what is wrong with the car hobby and why most people cannot afford these cars today.

Well who said you have to have a numbers matching Hemi. Buy a complete crate Motor for 17K, But I will wait on this guy to get very close to the price. Original Hemi's are demanding big money again. Again you have to be patient. Owning these Motors and cars are not for everyone considering only 200 where built.

I'm a MOPAR noob. This is my first one and it's a PITA because of all the cancer it has. Bought it for $500. Has a built 440 w/ 727 & 3.91 suregrip in a 67 coronet 500. 20140530_204450.jpg

My first mopar was a 65 valiant 4 door back in 1975. It is long gone and probably a Campbell soup can by now. My next mopar was 71 Cuda that I got in 1977 and I still have that. I picked up the 65 Belvedere a couple of years ago.

My first Mopar was a 71 RR with a 383 N 3spd with 323s 28000 miles tore red with a black gut I was working @ Guys Texaco as the shop kid in 1978 I arrived to work one morning & in the lot was the 71 RR a customer dropped it off for some freshening up it was setting back home in Massachusetts. @ the time I thought it was the ugliest car I ever saw, but I kept going back out N looking N setting in it, well I finely asked the guy if it was for sale N he said yes $2500 which was too much $ for me @ the time, a couple of months later the guy comes back N says how's $1500 sound well I bought that ugly car N never looked back was a chevy guy back then.
Took the RR to Englishtown one weekend N was hooked on racing lol started looking for a Dana 60 rear for it N found my 71 GTX in the back of the wantadd press in the cars for parts section.
The GTX had a better body then the RR N the RR had a nice body so I bought the GTX for $600 N sold the RR to my friend who still has it but I still have the original steering wheel N all the seatbelts plus all the NOS parts I was buying for it. O yea I worked @ WILD BILLS DODGE as the parts driver kid after the Texaco N any chance I had I was looking through the 71 catalog N buying everything that was still available that I could think of boy if I only knew then what I know now.

Cool boat, but there's no Hemi in it; that's false advertising!

Also, why did the throttle stick after she took her foot off of it?

The Hemi was replaced with a built 440 (lighter, more power)

Never got around to repainting it :icon_confused:

This is actually what I had in mind....

She ended up going to Mopar Matt's garage (Cuda1) before I could do anything with her :icon_winkle:

As for the throttle, it had an adjustable 2-step throttle linkage (Drag Boat thing) and I forgot to tell her about it lol

1969 Charger RT/SE
B5
440
4 speed
Paid $800 in 1976
Had no idea what I had, thought it looked cool!
Rare car
Man do I miss that car

71 Challenger. B5/black/black. 383/auto I bought it in 1974.

I convinced my mom to pay $500 for this in the fall of 1984.

We were looking for a car for her but when I saw this...

Love at first sight.

Poly 318, A/C and power windows. Never seen another with those options.

Minimal rust on both quarters, and that was pretty clean for a nearly 20 year old Ohio car.
(look at the rust on the nova across the street)

The next year that car terrorized many a brand new monte carlo ss, and quite a few other built gm 350 cars.

Pretty much bone stock (2 barrel) with several poor man's secret tricks.

Been around Mopar most of my life.
I think My earliest Experience was with my Fathers '67 Coronet as a child.

The first Mopar I could call My Own is a 1970 Sport Sat, Which currently sits in my backyard.

70 Barracuda Gran Coupe 383 2bbl June 71. Upgraded to Edelbrock & 780 w/ headers. Not too good at the strip w/323's & 12" converter. The last street race I beat a 70 Chevelle 454 before selling w/108K on the clock. By then had a 65 Coronet sedan w/ 426W or 440. Won many Super Pro races & got to mid 10's w/iron heads in mid 80's. Now have a 66 Satellite former drag car but set up for street. Trying to put more power in the 500". We'll see in a few months.
