Who Likes Aircraft ?

The British really liked those big bombs in WWII. Seems the US went more for saturation bombing with 250, 500 and 1000 pounders, and the British theory was just one gigantic bomb and blow the whole area to hell.
Also, the smaller bombs were just tickling the concrete submarine pens, they needed some real power to crack through. Some of these pens had roofs that were 8 meters (26 feet) thick.

The only two bombs that they couldn't stand up against were the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs, at 12,000 and 22,000 pounds each respectively.

As well, the Americans didn't have any B-29s deployed in Europe, and no other American plane could lift a Grand Slam. As it was, they had to specially modify special versions of the Avro Lancaster with more powerful engines and other changes for the missions, and those Lancasters were unable to carry any other type of bomb because of the mods.
