Hi all, looking for some input on 440 hydraulic tappets with a good reputation, do they still exist? For a performance street application using the older comp 274XE cam and non-adjustable rockers.

Oh boy lifter opinions, I know....

IMHO Topline Johnson lifters are the best and the right price.....

Topline Johnson Lifters

I switched out my hydraulic lifters that were in my 440+6 motor for a set of Comp Cams 822-16 lifters when I installed the new Comp Cams springs, locks, and retainers. No problems at all, where my old ones stuck and I had one collapse, old stock Mopar lifters I assume. I spin my 440 up to 6,200 on a regular basis.
I have no experience with Topline Johnson Lifters, although I have seen them recommended before.
Here's the link to the Comp Cams lifters I'm using: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-822-16

I run those same lifters with my XE275 HL

Three months so far on the new motor with this Comp Cams package and non adjustable valve train

After running the Mopar 284-484 Cam and lifters for twenty years in my 383 and how quite silent the valvetrain was

That’s been the biggest adjustment - Getting used to the fast cam lobe ramps and the noise associated with these XE Cams that I have read about over and over and over again

Guys trying different lifters etc , adjustable drivetrain trying to get rid of the sewing machine noise of the cam ramps and valvetrain with no such luck

Nature of the beast I guess

But once I get on the gas you can’t wipe the smile off my face and the motor sounds awesome

Incredible Torque for a 383/432 Stroker

Yes they sure do make more noise than a stocker!..I don't mind that so much, just mostly curious about the reliability factor as there seems to have been issues in recent years. I wish that 275HL cam was out when I put mine together. I still may swap one in....

I’ve got the XE285 and that thing sounds like a sewing machine on steroids at idle. But as said, give it the juice and it’s smiles from ear to ear.

I've got 6-7 sets of the 822-16 lifters in service. I'd use them as I think they were the recommended one for that camshaft. You can use anyone elses too. Just make sure you verify they rotate upon assembly, use the right cam PASTE (not liquid), don't turn the engine over much once the cam and lifters are installed the final time, and it fires immediately and can run for the full break in.

Comp cams does not make lifters
Isky found out many years ago that 50,000 pieces was a minimum order for custom lifters like for his Hyd VW cam
There are only a couple of lifter mfg left in the USA
Johnson is one of them-
BTW AFIK they make ALL of the HR conversion stuff- everyone else is a reseller

I just looked at Hughes website and all their lifters are Johnson. I'm happy with their solid edm lifters with decent pressure from the springs.

Johnson lifters is what was recommended to me from both mr 6 pack and Engle cams. Guy at engle said offshore lifters have been damaging alot of flat tappet cams recently.
