My wife said it was Christmas today! More parts for the GTX showed up. All the brakelines, the air cleaner, which will be modified to fit the single four and the rest of the frontend parts. I spent a little time searching E-bay for frontend parts and got everything including the pieces for an 11/16 tierod upgrade for under $200.




I bought a set of '66-69 style valve covers but unfortunately when they arrived they had been damaged in shipping.The seller made me a deal to cover the damage. I worked out the dents and sprayed the last coat of wrinkle finish tonight.



The 472 that will go in the GTX. This was slated for my '71 Road Runner but the GTX needs a hemi back between it's fenders.

Empty engine bay ready for a good pressure wash.



I happened to find an E-bay listing for a '68 hemi k member and mounts right after they were listed for a very reasonable buy it now. I grabbed both to put the hemi in with stock parts. Nice parts, supposedly pulled out a '68 R/T 45 years ago. The skid plate is really nice, no dents, just a few scratches.




Picked up a replacement engine harness that is modified for electronic ignition and a later alternator. Dug through the parts bins and came up with a regulator bracket and a new solenoid.



To avoid issues with the stock dual piston calipers, I'm going to put the Wilwood discs on that I got last year at the Portland Swap meet and convert to a non power master cylinder. I will stash all the stock parts for a "someday" restoration.



I pulled the cover off of the Dana 60 that came with the GTX. It has 3.54 gears and is clean inside. It will look really good under the back of the GTX.

Made some more progress on the GTX.

Got the Dana and Super Stock springs installed along with new rear brakes and brakelines.



Did a bunch of little things on the car.

The original resonators and tips were rotted out and I am going run 3" all the way back anyway. New tips wouldn't look right so I found this set of used ones on E-bay and made them into 3" tips compliments of my chopsaw.




Also pressure washed the engine compartment started to put together the wiring.



And added some decoration to the air cleaner.



Will post more updates later. I am wondering if I should start a sepearate build thread?

Made some more progress.

Got the new gas tank in and checked fit on the new rear tires. I did Mickey Thompson ET Street SS radials. They are 295/55 X 15 on the 15X9 200S wheels that were on the GTX when we got it.



Also got the front suspension out. Even though it has a wedge cross member it still had the Hemi torsion bars.




I also found more evidence of the tough life that the car had. It looks like at some point it was driven with a blown out upper control arm bushing.



This will get welded up along with a some of the holes in the firewall this week. Then rebuild the control arms off of the car and start installing the Hemi k member.

After the weekend thrash the GTX has the hemi k-member installed with rebuilt suspension, new torsion bars, fresh brakes with Wilwoods up front and new tires. Here it is on the trailer after everything was buttoned up headed to body shop to have the frame squared before the subframe connectors go in. When the front suspension was out we X measured it is a 1/2" out of square.




Also got a few more parts this week. Moser axles, green bearings from Dr. Diff and long wheel studs.

Thanks. The Dana in my Road runner still has the stock axles, but with the GTX, I don't want to take any chances.

Dropped the GTX off at the body shop to put on their frame rack. They found out the frontend was pushed over to the left and are currently pulling it back into spec. Here's a couple pics of it on the rack. Should be ready to pick up later this week.

While the GTX has been out of the shop. I took some time to salvage the original door panels. Yes they are a little rough and have speaker holes cut in them, but I wanted to reuse them for now. The backer board was warped and broken, so I found a set of '70 Charger panels with nice boards and removed vinyl. I removed the trim and peeled the vinyl off of the GTX door panels and married everything together. I also found the old Pioneer speaker covers under the seat and put them to use.
