1969 Road Runner facelift

Too early for me, I can't make it.

Best I could hope for would be to start spraying color by the time mopars in the park starts.

You can take the day off and drive a Ford (gasp) down to look at all the GOOD cars that will be there.
Ford parking is one block south of the show.

Holy smokes........sword fight about to break out in here. :hide:

You minnesota guys are just brutal to each other...Feel the love.

no I can't take a day off. days that I can commit to the bird are too few and too far between.

I had to give up tonight to run the tractor at home fixing my driveway so we don't need 4 wheel drive to get out to the hiway lol!

So, this is what it looks like when you take an air grabber hood apart.

Someone please tell me what I am missing in the way of a choke actuator here...

Do you have any close up pics of the finish weld on the 1/4 skins?

I guess I don't. I can try to take some though.

Being a eventual connection of a series of tack welds, it aint pretty lol!!

pretty sure I'm missing something like this for my choke... would explain the fits i have warming this car up to idle.

The little guy could have a few buddys over and camp out in the trunk, god knows its big enough.:)

Do you have any close up pics of the finish weld on the 1/4 skins?

I'll try to get a picture of that today. Like I said, as far as a weld goes, not pretty but it's the best I can do without warping things all to hell lol!!

Sunny day! I get to work on the car outside today! Wooo!!

I'm starting to think my B-body was used for practice scenes for dukes of hazard stunts.

Dents, dents, dents.

RH fender is junk, but I'll have to try and save it because I can't fork out $700 for a new one.

I've been hogging bondo off this smashed and hammer formed fender for an hour & a half now... makes me non happy.

But it is a very nice day, first we've had so far this year, The wife got on the riding mower and started the first mowing for the year today. (that's how late our spring is this year)

The car is running again, I prepped and epoxy primed the underside of the trunk and hung the fuel tank under the car again. So, I started the car and drove it outside of the garage for today's work, which did make me pretty happy :)

102_6053.jpg

Did some epoxy priming inside the trunk too.

Oh, some close up pics of my ugly topside quarter skin welds for superfreak.

Ok, I'm heading back outside for more bondo excavation on that fender. I had to come inside and grab a book and see what a new one cost before I continued on it. $700 bucks... yeah I'll work with it, see what I can do.

I'm trying like hell to get the rest of the car sanded today.

I'll update later.

Dave

Man, for about 140 bucks I could strip that baby down in about 50 minutes inside and outside and behind the headlight areas that you would never ever get to!

Does that include shipping?

Lol!

Going...

Going..

Gone.

The door and rocker made up for the front fender, really nice door & rocker on this side.

My god Dave.........That's nutz how many dents/dings are in that poor car. Someone drive that through a field full of claymore's? Your Martin Hammer are gonna be attached at the hip.. Looking real Good! Moving right along.........

I sure am glad to have the bulk of the paint/primers/fillers off the car. It's nearing that 'clean slate" status that I look forward to.

As far as welding goes, I have several small patches to weld in on the driver's side rocker, the bottom corners on both doors, a couple of very small patches where my new quarters didn't reach far enough in the jam area at the back bottom corners of the doors. Also my driver's door handle area, lower rear fender patches for both fenders, a small topside fender patch behind the headlight. And some minor patching to the rear window tray area...

:Groaner:

It sounds like quite a bit when I itemize like that.

Here's a little tip for everybody, it aint easy admitting to this rookie mistake... but here it is, my shame will hopefully save someone from making the same mistake.

When you are welding on your car....

Especially when using this spatter inducing weld through primer....

Cover or remove your glass.

I put a couple weld spatter pits in my glass. :(

And I know better, that's what makes it so tough to admit.

Yikes!! Sorry to hear. What kind/brand of weld through primer are you using? I was running the Zinc SEM, but now switched to U-POL. They're both conductive in order to reduce weld spatter, but it seems the U-POL has far less of the snap, crackle, pop...(Rice Krispie factor) Past couple cans of SEM were dud's, so something had to change...

Kudo's on manning up and revealing the rookie uh-oh. No doubt that your misfortune may help another fella out down the road.

I don't recall exactly which brand I was using... picked it up locally. It wasn't SEM or U-POL, it was a zinc type though.

might have been dupli-color?
