1969 Road Runner facelift

Back home now, we got rained out at the cabin.

I have a better picture of that pocket saw...

IMG-20110520-00001.jpg

it's one of those cable/wire camping saw's. I figured it might work ok for cutting the back window loose and it was only $3.59.

i was scared to try remove the windshield and rear glass. Last time i did try i busted it using the same type of wire "saw". I had a guy come to my house and he charged me 60 bucks to remove them both. He basically had a battery powered zawzall that had a blade with couple bends in it. had the glass out in about 30 min. I talked to yearone about the gasket today and they told me they have no idea when its coming in. I did find a few on ebay for twice the price but im still a ways out before i really need it so i can wait

there are a few gasket pirates out there that are asking 3-4 hundred for a gasket. i'm going to re-use my old gasket for this season if the new ones aren't out by the time I need one. The wire saw is for my back glass for cutting the goop to free the glass.

I took back glass out of a 68 coronet with welding wire once and did fine other than it taking so damn long to do with smooth wire.

No progress to report on the car, I've been busy fighting with a muddy driveway and basic yard work. Now a high school graduation weekend... Any teachers here? For the love of god... Why on memorial day weekend????

Us regular 12 month a year workers only get so many long weekends you know....

I did a small repair to the door pillar/rocker intersection forward of the bottom door hinge on the RH side of the car tonight.

I couldn't even see any rust there until we popped that glop of factory seam sealer out. A little cutting and puzzle piece patching, nothing exciting, sorry no pics.

hey Matt, i got something out in the mail for you today.

Sorry so late man, you really helped me out with the rocker tail section and the door jam you sent me.

Man, front and rear glass is easy to pop out, get the special tool at HF tools, it takes a bit of getting used to it, but, once you do it a few times, it's easy.

Wow!!! Just sent couple hours reading your thread. You rock man. I could never hope to match your speed and the quality of your work. Your car will look fantastic when done. I'll be doing similar repairs to my 69 r/r. Unfortunatly "my Kung Foo is weak" as are my tools workspace and everything else. With examples like you I might even tac weld a straight line some day.
I just spend the day learning that my hemi orange car is really r4 bright red. Could't tell in garage or out in sunlight, finally took a pic on phone and its red, not even close to orange. Baby steps first. I should used to this type of thing. I married a blonde that turned out to be a brunette lol. Mental note alwas check to see if the drapes match the carpet. Good luck with project.

Ps
My six year old just told me her tooth is starting to feel loose (her first). So I think I use your dog and string method first. I'll sub my dobie and maybe a bone or dog cookie for the duck.

Ha!!

Well thanks for the nice words and I'm sure your project will go great.

We have been on the road for grad parties out of town all weekend but we are home today and I plan on heading out to the garage soon for some cut and patch work on a rocker, fenders etc.

The car is looking great. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. I was digging the disco paint too. :pimp4:

sorry dudes.

Dave is here, he just got damn busy with chores. yard stuff and other stupid pointless efforts

Actually guys, a rest aint bad now and then, ya know?

Allright, it isn't much of an update but we did get the back glass out of the car in one piece today. I'll show some of that in a bit but first I have a short clip to show that hopefully helps me and others putting the headliners and sail panels back into these cars. I shot a little clip of the sail panel area showing how things came from the factory. Hopefully this helps me put things back together correctly and I hope it helps guys like prop maybe a little too.

More later, damn youtube uploads are slowwwww...

this is a great resto!! i just joined lat month and now have read every page, i wish i knew how to do body work like you! my Coronet doesnt need full quarters just a lower passenger piece, boy am i happy i dont need that, great work i cant wait for more updates!

We cut the back glass out today as well, I started out with a cheap wire "camping saw" to cut the glass free from the tray. We broke it after about 1/4 of the way around the back glass.

This was fine with me because I was very nervous about using this camping saw, I was worried of it chipping an edge of the glass.

So, I fed out around 3 feet of solid .023 wedling wire, doubled it over and twisted it with a cordless drill.

That worked damn good by the way, thank me later.

well the healdiner did come out, I will label the bows back to front so I get them back in the right slots in the new liner.

you know why most headliners go bad? because mice love the awesome mousy goodness hidden above the liner.

yuck.

I think I'll likely replace this with something less tastey like fiberglass.

so here's my vacant window tray.

Great Pic's/Video's Dave. Those help me out a bunch!! Sure gives me a lot of direction on those sail panels. Looks like all I need to do now is find those clips..

Which clips do you need? the ones along the side window roof rails? or the wire spring clips for those sail panels?
