1969 Road Runner facelift

I pulled the seat and peeled the front half of the carpet back.

Someone has undercoated the hell out of the top side of the floor.

I had to scrape like hell to expose some kind of bad news.

I need to cut out and make a little patch for the passenger side.

And I need to order a front pan for the drivers side and replace this area.

So what are you waiting for? Haha
That would be me throwing stones from the front porch of my glass house!

I wasn't going to pull the seat or the carpet.

But this hobby is part archeology/detective work.

Part of me thought there could be a snowball's chance in hell the build sheet might be down there.

Well, I got curious about the undercoating on the top side of the floor... had to start peeling further.

I'm glad I did because the driver's floor wasn't as good as I thought it was.

I won't do a full pan, I'll cut roughly the area I marked out in red.

Which will force me to scrape more undercoating top and bottom.

And I guess that's ok too because I was thinking about going with the frame connectors that follow the conture of the floor pan and are actually welded to the floor from under the car.

Since I now have to order a floor pan for the drivers side, I will go ahead and order lower fender patch panels and a rocker repair panel too.

I was on the fence for these fender and rocker panel pieces, strongly considering just making my own. But if I have to place an order then I'll order them too.

Where can I get lower rear fender patches, an outer rocker "repair" panel, a front floor pan and the US Cartools Contoured Frame Connectors, or a similar contoured frame connector?

Is there someplace that I can order all of these things from? I'd like to just make one order so they can bundle the shipping.

I have some questions about my trunk lid.

I see holes on the left and right sides of the back of the trunk lid.

It looks like the holes (which have been picked down and filled over with body filler) would be for the "road runner" emblems.

What about the driver's side though? There are 2 holes on that side that have also been picked down and filled over with body filler.

Would there have been a plymouth emblem? possibly a "Hurst" emblem? or do you think it was just a dealership emblem?

Well I took care of some misc patching that needed to be done today. No glory but the little jobs need to get done too.

My quarter skins didn't reach the bottom inside corner of the door jams so I has to make patches for both sides and weld in, very small patches.

Still though, better than spanning a hole with a bunch of filler.

I did both sides like this then turned attention to the rear of the quarter skins where the skins don't reach the tail pan.

Again, very small puzzle pieces but the little things gotta get done too.

Real good work Dave....Looks good!

Autobodyspecialties should have a majority of those parts/patches

Thanks Will.

Any ideas on my trunk lid emblem holes?

Your guess would be as good as mine Dave.......I'm thinking along the same lines as you (dealership/hurst??) If it is your original trunk lid, no Plymouth emblem was ever on the deck lid, just on the front hood lip

BTW....good beer choice!

These are the connectors I'm interested in, any thoughts on these?

Those connectors looks really great, they must be the strongest type since you can weld them to the floor, I would have bought them if they where aviliable in Sweden!

Thanks Will.

Any ideas on my trunk lid emblem holes?

I just read in one of my reference books that if the '69 was equipped with a Hemi it got the Hemi badge on the left side of the trunk lid, otherwise there were no factory badges there.
Looking good Dave!

Ok thanks Matt, it must have been a dealership emblem.

My parts list looks like about $400 for one front floor pan, one rocker repair piece, 2 lower fender patches and a pair of typical frame conectors (not contoured like I show above).

Yikes...

I'm gonna be into this for another $1500 by the time I get my correct base color mixed, a new carpet, windshield and gasket, weatherstripping, N96 hardware kit and my patch panels and connectors..

Dammit.

I guess it's time to make a scrap metal run.

Sell some plasma, sell a kidney, do a pracs study...

Lol!

I met a guy at a car show a couple of years ago, we discussed 1969 roadrunners specifically because we both have 69 roadrunners.

Mine is a lynch road car born with a 383/4 speed combo, tripple T7 bronze on the fender tag and the interior was all bronze when I got the car, including the carpet.

I'm redoing the car, trying to get it back to original for the most part and I'm going to buy a carpet for it soon.

According to this mopologist at this car show a couple of years ago "all 4 speed 69 roadrunners had black carpet"

I'm thinking mine was bronze....

It is bronze now anyways..

Is there anything to this 4 spd/black carpet claim?

I posted this same question down in the interior section and I'm getting a lot of feedback indicating that this is correct (4 spd car = black carpet)

hey dave, looking nice on those seam welds, they can be a bugger to get right. On the carpet issue,my orange/black RR has black carpet which ties into the black vinyl top. My other 69 RR which is f6 or f8 green and saddletan interior and is a 4-speed car is s'posed to have black carpet.hope that helps, but if the bronze carpet looks better than that would be a good choice too.

I think I will go with a black carpet.

It might look a little like a patchwork quilt though...

T7 bronze paint, white vinyl top, white-ish headliner, saddle (2 tone) vinyl on the seats and door panels... then a black carpet...

I guess I'll have to think about it a little more

I recorded a low of -29.5 on the house thermometer.

yeah, that's cool enough.

Not any snow yet though, I'm not too happy about that, I need my snow.
