1969 Road Runner facelift

car looks great dave, glad to see it with primer on it.rims look good also, new style with an old look.

I took one of my doors over to a friend's body shop. He mixes paint for color match of course, being a colision repair center and all.

We found a little original paint unrer the door weatherstripping that hadn't seen sunlight in it's 43 years. We matched color to that.

It doesn't sound like a big deal but it was kind of exciting for me, because color really isn't too far away.

Well here's one of my metal patches at the bottom corner of a door, trimmed and ready to weld. I did both doors. I also repaired a door that had thin, ripped metal at the door handle holes but didn't take pictures.

The doors are both ready for primer.

Bottom side of the N96 hood got a couple spot welds fixed, got sand blasted and primed today.

Trunk seams got seam sealer, I try to simulate factory seams which are actually pretty crude...

And the main body continues to endure minor tasks with seam sealers & and spots of filler here and there, mostly where it had factory filler. Body seams by rockers, sail panels and cowel.

And I got a good start on pulling everything off the firewall, labeling, cleaning/degreasing etc.

I'll keep going on the engine bay by dropping the coolant, pulling the exhaust manifolds for cleaning/painting. I also need to remove the dampner shaft from the RH manifold that was originally for the heat riser. I'll remove the shaft and plug the shaft holes.

I'll be able to pull the heater hoses from the firewall once the coolant is gone and I'll pull the radiator at that time too.

With the exhaust manifolds off I'll have better access to the inner fenders and for cleaning stuff like the steering sector.

We'll get the firewall and inner fenders sanded down and primed soon.

Meanwhile I'll be able to hang the doors back on the car and adjust them. Then I can start shooting some color. I'd like to do the insides of the doors and jams, engine bay and bottoms of hood and trunk lid all at once.

Dave,
You're an inspiration to all rust belt mopar owners! That **** will buff out after all, it just takes a little elbow grease and a lot of buffing compounds! The Runner is really starting to take shape, keep up the good work...

Thanks, you guys help a lot with the supportive comments. I had to quit at around 5 tonight to go watch my highschool senior daughter do the grand march at prom tonight. I'll get back at the runner in the morning.

looking good dave. Are you going to leave the motor in or take it out?

I've decided to leave the engine in. if I pull it out i won't be able to leave it alone, I'll open up too many opportunities to drag the project out further.

And I really want to drive the thing soon.

maybe next winter I'll pull it but for now I'm going to leave it in there.

I'm running low on moptivation.

Common Dave.....No time to start saulking around the joint. Fire up one of those 17 kinds of beer you got in your fridge and get rolling. Look how close you're to paint man. You know as well as I that as soon as paint's on it, light finally breaks the horizon and the wheels of motovation shift to high gear.

Thanks prop.

Us old knuckle busters need to push eachother along now and then. lol!
