What's it Worth 1970 HP2 440

HP2 means that is an HP engine built on the 2nd shift.
It was only a few short years ago that people out here were trying to sell HP2 blocks and engines for twice the rate of an HP equivalent.

Masturbarians, the lot of 'em. :jackoff:

I think pulling heads would help sale more then hurt.

And I’d take off and sell the intake separate anyways. The number guy valuing this block is not interested in the intake. Really same goes for heads. 516 heads are of no interest to short block buyer. Wonder if bigger valves were put in them?

What’s the number on the dual point? Is that an aftermarket dual point? Can’t see in pics.

No vacuum advance = aftermarket...

Problem with an 80's rebuild is probably 75-80% got low compression pistons... The 516 heads tend to confirm that....

Was what I was told that this block came out of a Dodge Charger wrong?
According to this link, it came out of an E Body.
If you own this car, PM me.

Engine came out of a Charger. Mid 80's rebuild, but not sure what cam is in it, or if it's been bored out to different specs, but it also included the original 6 pack rods & pistons, so I'm going to guess this was a built engine. It also has the 6-pack harmonic balancer as seen in the pic.
After putting the 1 1/4 socket on the crank bolt, the engine turns freely and is not locked up.
I know these HP2 engines carry some value to the right person, so what's it worth?

So what did you pay for it ??

I build lots of engines and I constantly get engines in the shop that are freshly rebuilt that have all kinds of problems. Some are even running in the car with potential problems. I get some pull out like this that are really messed up. I go to extra care on my builds
and only use a very good machine shop that builds race motors. This motor is a put together mess, more than likely. If you have the original heavy rods and four valve relief 70 hp pistons in hand, then probably it has regular rods and low compression pistons ( ie, lighter weight parts). The 516 heads are closed chambered and they would be too close to the original pistons and may make contact with the pistons. And with the 70 hp balancer, it will be out of balance and vibrate. So I see all kinds of problems. They only way I buy or sell a motor like that is take it apart for a Mark autopsy! The last 70 hp motor I bought was a pieced together mess. Here’s what I found after my autopsy before I bought it. I pulled the heads and pan. It had the original six pack rods and pistons on a very good std bore block with .001 wear. It had a std/std Hemi crank (with part number stamped on it) with no wear. It was freshly balanced internally with a std balancer It had 915 HP heads from an RT or GTX in very good shape. It only needed a minor cly hone, rings and bearing. I sold the short block for $3000 un assembled for examination.

There are just too many potential problems on a 55 year old engine.

Hp blocks are no different than others manufactured during that period, hp only designated the internals.

If I have time this week, I'll drop the oil pan.
The original 6 pack connecting rods/pistons came with the block. I'm curious to what's in there now.
What’s the engine number my 70 didn’t have it and I have an 70 hp in the engine shop now for it. It would be cool to have the match to my vin.
