Hey all,

Brand new member here and I'm looking for help with my 73 charger. I recently purchased a 73 charger and we would like to put in a 1970 383 super bee engine.

My question is there anything special I need for this swap? I have been told about K frames but i'm not sure if its needed or not.

Pls help.

They now sell motor mounts that allow you to keep your current k-frame, you will also need to change the cooling system to accommodate the larger motor and placement of fan, different radiator, some wiring differences, get a manual, it will show you where everything needs to be, as that car could have came with the 400 which is the same as the 383 but bigger displacement.

I recently read the instructions for the Schumacher swap mounts.

They want you to cut off about 2 inches of the pass side bolster of the K frame and then drill out what's left for the through bolt of the motor mount. Supposed to be for oil pump clearance.

That pretty much renders that a point of no return.

Depends on whats in there now, although you mention the K-frame, I'm thinking you currently have a small block so... other than what Old_skool mentions about the motor mounts, you need the big block transmission too. If your small block transmission is a 904 you will have to shorten yor driveshaft by about 4" to accomodate the 727 (car) transmission too.

Welcome to FBBO by the way!

Uh, yea, pretty important what's currently in there, huh?

Lol thanks for the info. Nothing is in there at the moment however there was a 318 from factory. Purchased a 727 transmission as well.
